In this compact hour and forty-five minute course you will learn the fundamentals of prepping files for print. This will include how to handle complex die lines, what to do with bleed and live on non-standard items, the challenges of coatings and how they affect your final product, why proofing is so important, and much more. Since there’s so much to cover on this topic, this will be the first in a series. In case you have any burning questions we’ll have a Q&A session at the end of the class
About Your Instructors:
The combined industry experience of these two individuals is over 25 years. Their intense knowledge comes from both the graphic design side of the equation and also the print production manager’s perspective.
These two entrepreneurs have worked on countless print projects ranging from multi page brochures with complex die cut shapes and complex finishing like gatefolds, to catalogs ranging from 24 page self cover to 200 page perfect bound course catalogs. Their experience also includes projects as simple as direct mail pieces and as complex as point-of-purchase store kits with over 20 individual pieces varying in size from small shelf talkers to large front window posters.
They are excited to bring their knowledge to the graphic design community in the Greater Denver, and surrounding areas.

Lisa Kathryn-Marsh Sanders – Principal & Owner – The Art Of Brand Strategy, LLC
Lisa Kathryn-Marsh Sanders graduated from Ohio University with a major in Retail Merchandising and a concentration in advertising and marketing. Once graduating her career began, Lisa has been in advertising and marketing now for over 15 years, and has spent many hours at print shops and on press checks. She has an in-depth knowledge of the importance of file prep for print, from some of the best printers in the country, and from being in the trenches during all-day and night press checks. She will share the importance of how to deal with colors and layers in files and how things translate on press, as well as how different stocks and coatings affect the color of your end product. Additionally she will share personal experiences to help students learn how to avoid costly mistakes when sending files to a printer. She also has extensive experience with promotional products as well as large format items like trade show booths. The Art Of Brand Strategy, LLC is a consulting company focused on project management and print consulting, with a focus in retail and point-of-purchase, advising small to mid-size companies how to manage their print projects and save money in the process.
Brittany Haas – Owner – Paperglee
Brittany Hass landed in Denver immediately after graduating from Arizona State University’s prestigious graphic design program. She mourns the lack of print preparation education students get in school, as she royally screwed up a few print jobs in her first year in Denver, while employed at Anabliss (Thanks Anabliss!). She learned many lessons, tips, tricks, checklists, and priorities from mentors there as well as from prepress and press operating professionals at various Denver and Phoenix area print shops. Twelve years later, Brittany is running her own print-focused design consultancy, Paperglee, where she provides design, proofreading, and project management expertise—and deeply enjoys the scents of ink and fine paper. She loves the variety of topics that being a print design expert and subject matter generalist provides: homelessness and housing issues, NYC recruiting, real estate, financial services, product packaging, culture change, b2b marketing of all sorts, and more!
