OneClock: Amazing Colorado-Invented Waking Device

OneClock is one of those inventions that’s simply genius in its conception. “OneClock is not an alarm clock. Many alarms trigger a spike in blood pressure and heart rate which activates the fight-or-flight response of your nervous system. OneClock’s sounds are designed to activate your brain as you sleep, then wake you gently and reliably.” The team, which consists of some Colorado creatives and innovators, researched the best tones, tempos and frequencies to wake you up. Then they asked Grammy artist Jon Natchez from The War on Drugs to create a collection of musical compositions to lift you out of sleep in a peaceful, more natural way. It’s designed and made in Colorado and you can get on the list now for the release next month.

Here’s photographer Jamie Kripke, one of the founders, with some more background on the device.

“Oh, hi.

I’ve been thinking about how strange time is. It’s hard to remember what day of the week it is. Clocks have taken on new meaning because many of us have nowhere to be. They’re now a reminder of how time is something both measured and precise, but also highly subjective. As Al Einstein once said, “time is an illusion.”

Speaking of time, it has been a long time since I shot an assignment. Like music and restaurants, commercial photography has been largely put on hold. Fortunately, while I wait for the assignment work to come back, I have been able to focus my creative energy on building a clock company. But it’s actually more than a clock. OneClock is essentially an art + music project that slowly formed by following my curiosity down new paths, and using all the skills I’ve picked up over the last few decades.

Almost 2 years after my first sketch, we have production ready prototypes in hand, and we’re gearing up for an official launch in late January.”

Has anyone gotten one of these? I loved the idea but definitely stopped by the price. I can’t find anything else like this (loftie has pretty sour reviews). If it’s that good, I’ll get it with my holiday bonus….
