Big Papa’s Starts Denver’s Best BBQ Battle
By The Denver Egotist / / Local barbecue restaurant, Big Papa’s BBQ, started a war in town last week that caught our attention. They’re out to prove they have the best barbecue in Denver – launching a four-part campaign “to bring the food to the people and the people to the food.” The hub of the campaign takes place as both events and online on Facebook. You can check out the details on the stuff outlined below here. Agency: LeeReedy / Xylem Digital. 1 – Big Papa Pop Up – We’re stuffing our $25,000 smoker full of baby back ribs and giving them away for free every time we pop up in Denver. Want to know where we’ll be? 2 – Baby Back Throwdown – We’re putting our money where our mouth is by giving away our baby back ribs for free to anyone who wants to put us to the best BBQ test. 3 – Super Secret Supper Society – For the connoisseur of barbecue and beer, it’ll be the ultimate evening of decadence. Get on the list. We send the super secret details on December 1st. 4 – Win Big Papa – The big prize is Big Papa at your house with his $25,000 smoker and enough food to feed an army of friends. (Plus, some BBQ Q&A with the Big man himself).

LeeReedy/Xylem Digital is doing this work. Entrepreneur Magazine is covering our experiment to build Big Papa’s business using social media.
We’ve held two pop-up events so far promoted via social and BP’s Twitter followers have tripled. But the real measure of the experiment will be sales.

Hey Eric, since you’re so comfortable tooting your own horn (and who isn’t in this business) can you help us understand the idea behind the campaign? Maybe what the goals are, the key metrics, why start in November and where the idea originated? Was this something Lee Reedy came up with in direct response to client needs or was the concept brought in via the client themselves? Always fun to hear the real story behind stuff like this.
Oh yeah, nice creative by Wedum.
