In April, we posted about a CPB TV campaign for Hotels.com giving a ubiquitous but unspoken social media behavior a name — the “hate-like.” That secret envy you feel after seeing your friends post amazing vacation pics, but you end up liking them anyway.
Now they’re using out of home ads to catch people across NYC hate-liking.
3 in 4 Americans admit to using their phone while on the toilet, and New York is one of the most popular states for toilet texting. So Hotels.com is targeting people in lousy places — on the toilet, in that vaguely puke-smelling taxi and even in the subway while that stranger’s thigh is sweating against yours — where they would most likely be on their phone scrolling Instagram and wishing they were somewhere else.
