Description

Roost Books (an imprint of Shambhala Publications) publishes food, craft, nature, family, and lifestyle titles that aim to inspire. The list includes James Beard award-winning cookbooks and beautifully and intentionally designed hardcover and paperback titles that elevate everyday activities. We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual for an exciting entry-level position. This is a unique opportunity to learn all aspects of book marketing and publicity at a family-owned company where each book is distributed by Penguin Random House.

Responsibilities:
* Assist the Marketing and Publicity Director in executing effective and priority-driven campaigns tailored to the subject and presentation of the book and the strengths of each author’s platform
* Create and coordinate the design of promotional collateral including postcards, sellsheets, advertisements, event signage, and materials for sales accounts
* Provide assets for author websites, social media, and newsletters
* Assist with writing press materials, compiling press kits, overseeing blad/ARC and finished copy mailings, creating pitch letters, and managing other publicity assets
* Research, maintain, and organize department outreach databases and lists
* Design and deploy single title and category emails
* Maintain and update internal tracking systems for marketing plans and publicity campaign records
* Perform website maintenance to update author profiles, book pages, and title metadata
* Write and design blog articles, social media paid advertising campaigns, and organic posts
* Travel for conferences, festivals, and sales meetings as needed

Desired qualifications:
* A love for books and genuine desire to learn about marketing and publicity in book publishing
* Strong interest in cooking, crafts, children’s activities, wellness, and other lifestyle categories and a general understanding of the media landscape in those topic areas
* Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail with a strong ability for written and verbal communication
* Comfortable asking questions, taking direction, and offering suggestions
* Proven ability to multitask and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment
* Ability to think creatively about how to solve problems or execute a campaign strategy
* Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
* Familiarity with email marketing platforms or Wordpress is a plus
* An eye for design and experience with the Adobe Creative Suite—particularly Photoshop, InDesign, and Adobe Acrobat—is preferred
