Description

The Director of Marketing & Communications leads the branding, marketing and communications strategies for Downtown Partnership and its family of organizations. Primary initiatives are in support of storefront businesses, inclusive of print, broadcast and out-of-home advertising; social media; SEO and digital communications; media relations; and targeted campaigns. The director also oversees and implements brand management, membership communications, and economic-development communications that serve to make Downtown Colorado Springs magnetic to investment. This position is both strategic and hands-on, and it is supported by a Digital Communications Manager.

Qualifications and competencies:
• Bachelor’s degree with preference to degrees in Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design, Advertising, Public Relations, English, Journalism.
• At least seven years’ experience in communications or marketing positions in an organizational setting, with progressive levels of responsibility.
• Superb written, oral, graphic, presentation and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work on tight deadlines, manage multiple assignments simultaneously, prioritize tasks and work independently as well as in a team.
• Ability to conduct base-level research, analyze data sets.
• Creative thinker and problem-solver.
• Budgetary and financial acumen.
• Respect for a diversity of cultures and people.
• High level of comfort with technology. Software and applications used frequently in the position include Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, MailChimp, multiple social media platforms and location intelligence tools.
• Passion for Downtown Colorado Springs, urbanism and the mission of Downtown Partnership.
Work environment/physical demands
Primarily office environment. A majority of time involves working at a computer station, some repetitive motion. Very occasional outdoor work; ability to traverse multiple blocks in an urban environment.

Essential job functions:
STRATEGIC
• Prepare annual marketing-communications plan and budget in tandem with CEO.
• Create and execute multiple seasonal marketing campaigns with overall goal of driving more people Downtown and enhancing retail, restaurant, small-business success.
• Manage Downtown brand and brand standards for a consistent and engaging look and message for Downtown Colorado Springs in its entirety.
• Issue RFPs and oversee contractual creative services, including but not limited to: photographer, videographer, web design and maintenance, digital tools, SEO, some graphic design.
• Maintain monthly or quarterly dashboards that identify critical issues and opportunities.
• Engage Branding/Communications volunteer committee in strategic efforts.

APPLIED
• Produce content and design for enewsletter and special e-blast notifications, with attention to SEO and mobile functionality and features.
• Oversee website design, updates and maintenance.
• Secure and oversee media sponsorships and media buys (print, digital, broadcast).
• Design and manage production of all professional print and digital collateral, to include but not limited to: multi-page reports, informational brochures, printed and wayfinding maps; seasonal campaign/promotional collateral; lamppost banners; digital ad layout; other products.
• Prepare and disseminate news releases, serve as primary contact on news releases, pitch stories to media highlighting positive Downtown trends and players.
• Provide interviews to print and broadcast media as appropriate.
• Ensure an accurate media archive through use of Google Analytics, etc.
• Prepare talking points, speeches, PowerPoint presentations, etc., as needed for public appearances by CEO.
• Other duties as assigned.

Downtown Partnership ensures that Downtown Colorado Springs serves as the economic, civic and cultural heart of the Pikes Peak region. A 501c4 umbrella organization, Downtown Partnership also manages the contracts for service with the Greater Downtown Colorado Springs Business Improvement District, the Downtown Development Authority and the 501c3 nonprofit Downtown Ventures.

Salary range: $80,000-$95,000
