Communications Strategy Group (CSG®), a strategic communications agency, seeks an art director with design prowess and strong strategic instincts to support its creative team, known internally as the Studio.

Roles and Responsibilities
Art directors at CSG are curious, collaborative and tenacious. As a seasoned designer, art directors are a critical member of our small but mighty Studio team, you will touch clients across the firm, often bouncing through multiple industries and disparate brands in a single day (or hour). We believe that habitual learners make the greatest co-workers and that we need more than simple creativity to do our jobs well. We need the discipline to channel our creativity into purposeful solutions that help our clients solve business problems.

As an art director, you will need to create a wide variety of assets for a diverse group of clients, create compelling and persuasive compositions, and be able to explain why your solutions are effective. You should be an expert in print and digital design across several disciplines (Web/Animation/Video/UX/UI), and you should feel confident leading and mentoring a team of designers and collaborating with our account team members. A strong knowledge of marketing principles, integrated campaigns, creative production, design trends and tools, video, UX and web design will serve you well, but a willingness to jump in and master new skills will serve you even better.

Art Directors
-Effectively articulate the ideas and decisions behind their work, particularly in the context of how the work supports and reflects strategic initiatives
-Understand communications industry best practices and provide a unique point of view to support strategic planning
-Lead the creative charge on projects and effectively collaborate with other Studio team members for assistance
-Facilitate internal and client-facing conversations about creative work
-Effectively collaborate with Strategy Group (account) team members and understand when to ask questions and pose challenges to timelines, feedback and direction
-Mentor other Creative team members (e.g., interns, production designers, graphic designers)
-Proactively learn new skills and emerging tools and continuously work to advance existing skills

Qualifications
-5+ years’ experience
-A bachelor’s degree in a design field or commensurate experience
-Demonstrated mastery of design applications (Adobe Applications)
-The ability to seamlessly transition from one media type to another and deliver the best design for that context
-Comfortable getting up to speed on new clients and industries quickly in order to make meaningful contributions within your first weeks
-A diverse portfolio demonstrating a range of work, including brand and campaign concepts, and the ability to articulate clearly the thinking behind the work
-Exceptional collaboration and people skills, and a track-record of successful work alongside copywriters, strategists and technologists
-Strong attention to detail within design and process
-Experience operating within a project management system (Ex: Asana, Airtable, Workfront, Basecamp) is a plus
-A willingness to embrace change, adapt and problem-solve on the fly
-Agency experience strongly preferred
-Working knowledge of the education, health, consumer and/or financial services industries a plus
-WordPress experience, or front-end design and development experience a big plus
