Job Overview
As an Interactive Art Director & Designer, you will create visual brand identity systems, logos, user interfaces, and other digital marketing assets. You’ll also function as a front-end web designer and collaborate with developers to build functional, developed websites. Experience in design and development for Wordpress is a must!

You are a talented Art Director and Interactive Designer with the experience to conceptualize as well as translate and extend concepts into effective visual designs for interactive and web design, digital marketing campaigns, and branding projects. Under the direction of the Creative Director, you will work on several projects at a time and will be involved in all phases of creative development, with a focus on design execution and art direction. You may also be involved in new business projects. You receive moderate oversight and guidance from your manager, but you’re also a self-starter.

What You’ll Be Doing
Concepting
- In partnership with a copywriter, contribute to the creation of design and campaign concepts through active participation in brainstorms, internal creative reviews, and other idea-generating sessions
- Help establish look and feel of websites and digital campaigns
- Develop a competent knowledge of client’s business objectives, brand, consumer and competitive landscape to inform insightful design ideas
- Understand the creative direction set forth for each project and develop work that supports that direction
- Articulate creative concepts and designs internally to team, management, and clients

Design
- Leverage a competent understanding of technology, user interface design, and visual design fundamentals and techniques in generating an effective range of designs/layouts/storyboards for all elements of the creative solution that address client objectives, and are visually appealing and motivating
- Expand personal knowledge of design and current state-of-the-art techniques and digital best practices
- Design mood boards, wireframes, hi-fidelity mockups, style guides, concept sketches, presentation decks and storyboards under minimal direction of the Creative Director
- Create and produce digital assets for execution
- Perform photo retouching and enhancements as necessary
- Research and review suitable WordPress plugins, illustrations, photography, and stock photos/video
- Prepare and present creative deliverables to Creative Director and clients for direction, feedback, and approval
- Incorporate revisions per feedback as appropriate and ensure approved creative conforms to client style and brand guidelines
- Assist Creative Director in necessary research and preparation of client presentation materials
- Contribute to and maintain style guidelines/online design libraries to accompany final client deliverables

Collaboration
- Work enthusiastically, respectfully and collaboratively with other project team members, have a clear understanding of how a project team operates, their responsibilities throughout a project and what is expected in creative reviews, both internally and with clients
- Partner with copywriters, developers, digital marketing team, and business stakeholders to ensure the project meets creative strategy/project objectives
- Consider technology requirements and design a solution that complements the technical strategy and/or partners with the development and digital marketing teams to overcome implementation obstacles

Project Execution
- Consult with Creative Director, Project Manager, and Account Manager to evaluate individual project needs and proactively raise issues that may impact quality or timing of deliverables and offer solutions
- Actively participate in team meetings and daily scrums to discuss assignment parameters and prioritization
- Ensure that internal and external deadlines, timelines, and feedback processes are adhered to for assigned project phases
- Manage and prioritize work effectively, and proactively escalate conflicts with workloads
- Organize files per prescribed process and maintain design asset files with meticulous attention to detail
- Help develop tools and recommendations to improve current processes that impact client deliverable timelines

Community & Business Contribution
- Responsible for giving continuous feedback to peers and critical self-review
- Participate in and help plan culture-building events with other members of the Buhv team

Required Skills/Knowledge/Experience
Excellent eye for design, imaginative, well-organized, good-natured, dedicated, flexible and passionate, you bring an advanced understanding of visual and experience design, typography, composition and color theory. Besides a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic, Interactive, or Multi-Media Design (or a related field), you have the following:
- Strong web and digital design portfolio
- 4-6 years design experience, preferably in an interactive agency
- Advanced command of standard design and layout applications (e.g. Sketch, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and HTML/CSS
- Demonstrable experience with advanced WordPress theme customization
- Demonstrated ability to utilize feedback/direction from creative leader to generate multiple design explorations and iterate designs to the satisfaction of the client
- Working knowledge of DNS and Hosting Management
- Managing multiple assignments at the same time (including organizing and prioritizing workload, and working efficiently under pressure in a deadline-driven environment)
- Solid understanding of the digital landscape, including everything from ecommerce websites, immersive and personalized online experiences to online campaigns, social media and mobile
- Creative problem solving skills that enable you to evaluate a creative approach, brainstorm, and seek unexpected, original and innovative ideas
- Careful attention to detail and sensitivity to version control issues
- Solid knowledge of the development process (e.g. optimizing graphics, compression settings and file size and image optimization)
- Strong verbal communication and presentation skills and an ability to articulate your creative process, thoughts, ideas and a point of view about your work
- Excellent interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, a sense of humor and the ability to thrive in a collaborative agency environment
- Self-motivation – you like to figure out how to get the work done and do whatever it takes
