The Josef Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denver is an interdisciplinary professional school of international studies that prepares students for careers in the public, private, and non-profit sectors. Our program provides students with the knowledge, skills, and networks to design policies, implement programs, and realize outcomes that enhance human capabilities around the world.

We offer a Ph.D. degree in International Studies and Master’s degrees in International Development, Human Rights, International Studies, Global Finance, Trade, & Economic Integration, Security, International Administration, Public Policy, and Conflict Resolution. We also offer graduate certificates of specialization in Global Environmental Change and Adaptation, Global Health Affairs, Humanitarian Assistance, Global Business and Corporate Social Responsibility, International Law and Human Rights, Homeland Security, Public Policy, and Religion and International Affairs, as well as joint or dual degree programs with Sturm College of Law, Daniels College of Business, the Graduate School of Social Work, and with the Department of Media, Film and Journalism Studies. At the undergraduate level, we offer a degree in International Studies.

Position Summary

The Communications Manager oversees a wide range of day-to-day communications for the Josef Korbel School of International Studies (Korbel School). This position interacts with faculty, staff, and students to have a finger on the pulse of daily life at the Korbel School, including new initiatives, research, events, student engagement, admissions, careers, and alumni/donor relations. This includes compiling and disseminating internal and external communications materials, including e-mail announcements and newsletters, daily website updates, press releases, managing social media channels, planning content that reflects broader strategic communications goals, and communications inbox monitoring. This position will also liaise with the central University on joint projects and advance Korbel School objectives in the process.

Essential Functions

Serve as the point person for faculty, staff, and students on all communications needs, responding in a timely, appropriate, and comprehensive manner to all communications requests.
Create and disseminate a wide range of communications materials, including electronic newsletters, annual reports, website content updates, event announcements, and social media.
Responsible for content creation, writing, and editing assistance on various projects.
Manage social media channels, including content planning designed to increase the Korbel School’s visibility among current and prospective students, faculty, staff, donors, and alumni.
Create and manage master calendar of communications projects and deadlines.
Maintain internal database of all communications procedures and materials, including content and photos that can be cross-purposed across channels and collateral.
Liaise with other University units and central administration to advance specific program goals and the general interests of the Korbel School.
Work collaboratively with communications consultants hired by the Korbel School.

Strong attention to detail.
Ability to produce clean copy for public consumption and edit content for a variety of stakeholder communications.
Graphic and web design skills.
Skilled in use and display of data in communications.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree.
• 2-4 years of increasingly responsible professional experience in communications and/or marketing.
• Project management experience.
• Copy editing experience.
• Experience managing social media and email databases.
• Experience with webpage management.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree or graduate level coursework in international studies, communications, journalism, public relations, or marketing.
• Five years of experience working in higher education, non-profit, or similar sector and understanding specific communications needs within the market.
• Interest in and knowledge of international affairs/international studies.
• Skilled in use and display of data in communications.

Work Schedule

Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Evenings and weekends as required.
