Denver-based Folk-pop songstress Katey Laurel crafts both radio-friendly pop tunes and lush, cinematic songs for film and TV. Katey has been honored as a finalist in the Tucson Folk Festival Songwriting Competition, a winner and alternate in two categories of the Walnut Valley Festival NewSong Contest in Winfield, KS, and a 2012 Great American Song Contest Finalist and ISC Semi-Finalist. Her music has been featured as part of Microsoft Windows 7 “Playlist 7” and Heineken’s “Ultimate Playlist” sponsored song programs and she was one of 7 national finalists in the Nine West “Voices of Vintage America” contest.
She was 2011 Denver Westword “Singer/Songwriter of the Year” Nominee, 3rd on Denver 7’s “A-List” for “Best Local Band” and winner of the 2011 Texaco Country Showdown Colorado. As a live performer, Katey has shared the stage with Howie Day, Matt Morris, Katie Herzig, Bill Mallonee, Braddigan (of Dispatch), The Bittersweets, Trevor Hall, Karla Bonoff, Blue Oyster Cult, Red Molly, Nashville Star Finalist Tamika Tyler and others.
Katey has performed hundreds of shows via venues, radio, television stations and festivals in Colorado and around the U.S. over the past five years, including The Hotel Cafe, The Bitter End, The Bluebird Cafe, Denver’s 9 News, Fox 31 “Good Day Colorado” and Channel 2 “Daybreak on the Deuce”, Boulder’s KGNU Kabaret, Ft. Collins’ KRFC “Live at Lunch”, Denver’s Mix 100, and Vail’s KKVM “The Mile”.
Her songs have been aired on KALC Alice 105.9, KMNT “The Mountain” in Denver, KBCO Boulder, KFMU Steamboat Springs and KOTO Telluride in Colorado and a variety of Triple A radio stations around the country. Her music has also graced several indie film soundtracks. Most recently, she has started her own film/TV/commercial licensing company, One Way Music Services, housing ten highly talented one-stop independent artists.
