Daft Punk Formula One Racecar Graces the Monaco Grand Prix
All last week, short, punchy trailers were released on Daft Punk's Facebook page and that of the British Formula One racing team Lotus F1. The teasers featured brief, cryptic clips of slick helmeted silhouettes and sleek race cars — building anticipation and the suggestion of a collaboration between the two worlds of racing and electronic music. Daft Punk released their new record Random Access Memories two weeks ago — perfect timing for the lead-up to the world’s most high-profile racing event, the Monaco Grand Prix.
And what do you know, on Friday the main event was delivered with a :30 second spot directed by Jonas Åkerlund, edited by Christian Larson and produced by Black Dog Films/RSA that makes the mystery worth the wait. The Lotus team would be driving a customized Daft Punk racecar in the race watched by 100 million people.
