What Would the Children of the Future Say if We let Them Down this November By Not Re-Electing Obama?

The latest for Obama, as we enter the last week and this half before election day in a neck-and-neck race. Might be the most creative spot we've seen this season. Jeff Goodby wrote it (despite being a registered Republican) and Rich Silverstein art directed.

The Future Children Project from FutureChildrenProject on Vimeo.

Imagine an America
Where strip mines are fun and free
Where gays can be fixed
And sick people just die
And oil fills the sea

We don't have to pay for freeways!
Our schools are good enough
Give us endless wars
On foreign shores
And lots of Chinese stuff

We're the children of the future
American through and through
But something happened to our country
And we're kinda blaming you

We haven't killed all the polar bears
But it's not for lack of trying
Big Bird is sacked
The Earth is cracked
And the atmosphere is frying

Congress went home early
They did their best we know
You can't cut spending
With elections pending
Unless it's welfare dough

We're the children of the future
American through and through
But something happened to our country
And we're kinda blaming you

Find a park that is still open
And take a breath of poison air
They foreclosed your place
To build a weapon in space
But you can write off your au pair

It's a little awkward to tell you
But you left us holding the bag
When we look around
The place is all dumbed down
And the long term's kind of a drag

We're the children of the future
American through and through
But something happened to our country
And yeah, we're blaming you

You did your best
You failed the test

Mom and Dad
We're blaming you!

Children being used to further their parents political viewpoints...Now that's fucked up.

Amen.

Whoring out kids with scare tactics. Goodby has slipped.

This is what passes as most creative? Look, I know the bar for creativity is pretty low in political advertising, but I'm not sure what is so creative here given the aim was clearly to be effective using hyperbole and children to appeal to an emotional response. Is it creative when the ASPCA or PETA (not sure which) shows harmed animals with Sara Mclachlan? I agree it may be effective, but this is far from creative.

Totally fucked. I agree with above comments. You know what the real problem is? Our political parties. Fuck the democrats and the republicans. They're all liars and thieves. Vote libertarian.

Yow. I bet the only thing they'll be blaming their parents for is making them sing in this flaming turd.

i just threw up in my mouth

I'm one of the children that sang in this project, and I'm afraid to tell the people who have commented above that I knew very well what I was singing for, and it wasn't some "flaming turd" that our parents made us participate in. It was fun, I liked the lyrics, and I most happily stand by the viewpoints expressed.

I'm sorry you feel so upset about children singing in a political song, but I'd like to say that you should be pleased instead that we get to participate to some extent in the political world even if we can't vote...

If you believe we were forced to sing this, you are sadly mistaken.

I'd say the video was in fairly poor taste to begin with, but now an articulate adult with perfect grammar is posing as an 8 year old kid to defend it?

Awkward.

you spin me right round baby right round.

If these kids are so concerned with the future, why don't they vote? It's not like you need an ID.

I'm a little president, short and stout
If your embassy's in trouble, I won't help you out.
No, I'll watch a satellite feed as you die, die, die
And then go to a debate and lie, lie, lie.

Now all I need is some parents willing to whore out their kids, and a megalomaniac willing to whore out his agency.

Any takers?

That video was horrible, in every way, shape and form. Horrible propaganda.

Too bad Ron Paul isn't in the final 2.
