The Ad Gods Were Looking Down When this 1983 Apple Spot Was Killed
How different would things have been if this commercial for the original Macintosh — incidentally also done by Chiat\Day — had run in place of or at least previous to the infamous 1984 Super Bowl spot? It may have been Apple's saving grace as a company to have this only be used in promotional materials sent to dealers. Andy Hertzfeld, one of the originals who was at Apple in 1983, posted the rarely seen commercial on his Google+ page, saying Apple deemed it too self-congratulatory to run. Perhaps it should have stayed hidden forever, although these nerds are pretty radical.

Whoa. These are exactly like the videos they release today when launching a new product.
"if I can get you to sit in front of it, and play with it, you won't let go of it"
Boring in comparison—like they would have meant this to run AFTER the 1984 spot, as a way of explaining what they meant by the 1984 spot to people who didn't quite get the 1984 spot.
