The WWII ShoeBox Project
Today is Veteran's Day, which makes the announcement of this project all the more appropriate. 16 million Americans served in WWII, but only 2 million are alive today. The goal of ShoeBox by 1000memories is to put the photos and stories of every WWII veteran online in a shareable space so they can be preserved and celebrated, together. ShoeBox is partnered with The Internet Archive and The Library of Congress to make it happen.
The app they've created allows you to quickly scan old paper photos and documents — bringing the albums, scrapbooks and photo-filled “shoeboxes” out of the closet and into an online space where they can be organized and shared with family and friends.
Thank you to all who have and continue to serve.

This is AWESOME!!!!
I'm actually going back to PA this month to interview the father of an old client of mine, he was one of TWO color photographers in World War II, and his photos are the only ones that ever made it back to the states. They're now considered national treasure, and he has a ton of them and the original slides at his house. I'm excited to talk with him, I'll be shooting it all (using DSLR's and zoom's for audio of course) and editing it together and then I can put it up with this stuff hopefully, it's going to be a really unique angle of the war to hear about.
