Pop-up ads on videos are just annoying. But maybe that's because they never have a solid concept tied to them the way this VW idea does. We like.

  • Creative Crackdown: Denver Cutthroats Logo

    May 24th, 2012 / Comments (11)

We just got an email containing one FODE's (Friend of Denver Egotist's) assessment of the new logo for the Denver Cutthroats — our new Central Hockey League franchise in town. It's below, verbatim. But we wanted to hear your perspective, as well. Keep it or throw it back?

"I don't know if you're aware that we have a new minor league hockey team here in Denver, called the Denver Cutthroats. Now, I guess that could be considered kind of an intimidating team name if it weren't for the fact that it's actually a fish. Yep, we have a hockey team whose mascot is a f*cking fish. Look out for Denver, America. We're comin' atcha...errr swimmin' atcha...err...shit, water is frozen in hockey.

Regardless of said ridiculous mascot, I'm curious what your thoughts are, or if you want to make a post to see what Denver's design community's thoughts are about the logo. Personally, I can't stand it. I don't know if it's the green and red that vibrate against each other, the dick-like nature of the fish coming out of the "D"-gina, or simply the fact that I cannot answer what the hell happened to the "D" in general.

There are a lot of fish/fishing/hook puns that could be made, but I'm holding back."

  • Nickelback Stage Video - Via Friends of Mine

    May 24th, 2012 / Comments (4)

Molly Gray, executive producer who specializes in concert stage graphics and video, brought Denver's Friends of Mine an opportunity to produce the stage video for Nickelback's 2012 tour for their song " Kiss it Goodbye." The stage consisted of six vertical screens, 4' wide X 15' height each, that hoves above the stage — and two horizontal screens 60' in width that wrap around the floor stage. The vertical screens are automated to spread apart and move together as needed during the concert. Uncertain such a questionable band deserves such great work.

  • Coke Lets Fans Download the Actual Band

    May 24th, 2012 / Comments (0)

Starting on an elevated stage 50 m in the air, concertgoers had to download the songs from the band in order to download the band itself, promoting Coke FM — an online radio station — in a way never seen before. Agency: Ogilvy & Mather Colombia.

  • Amazing Getty Film Puts 873 Stills Together to Tell a Life's Story

    May 24th, 2012 / Comments (1)

Patient research work involving more than 5,000 photographs resulted in this intriguing 1-minute film from AlmapBBDO to advertise Getty Images. The film features 873 images with 15 images per second. Copywriter Sophie Schoenburg and art director Marcus Kotlhar worked 6 months researching images, improving the script and building each scene so they would not only be understood, but would also touch viewers. That's dedication.
