Chris Farley, Back from the Dead for DirecTV
Anybody else feel like they stepped over the line on this one, using a dead person to get more satellite subscribers? Sheesh.
Good thing Deutsch won VW. They’re going to be feeling the backlash from this DirecTV spot.

Odd.
I think they crossed the line. I was caught off guard when I saw it.
That commercial just made me think of the photo of him dead, thanks DirecTV.
And I thought Spade was his best friend. But then Spade’s been pretty clear he’ll do anything for a buck. Still, it’s weird. And sad.
I think there a plenty of movies out there with LIVING actors Deutsch could have chosen. Having DTV as a client is punishment enough for the crime. If you worked for them, you know what I’m talking about.
My problem isn’t with using Farley. It’s the idea that Spade would bitch about being there with him, when he could be doing something better. Using dead people, meh. But using them badly, that’s what sucks.
I think Spade would be pretty happy to get some time with Farley. That’s the disconnect for me.
Look, everyone’s a whore. But at least make some sense.
I completely disagree. I think of the ad as a fun little homage, and Spade would not have done it if he didn’t feel the same way. Dude’s not hurting for cash. It’s the line at the end when he sincerely says “that never gets old” that does it for me.
And the reason Spade seems like he doesn’t want to be with Farley is because, like every other ad in this campaign, they try to keep the actor somewhat in the character of the particular movie.
Trust me, David Spade is a better protector of his friend’s legacy than anyone posting on here.
Whats the big deal…? I think its a nice tribute and are people really getting hung up the fact that he’s dead? Hello?
