Denver Filmmaker Justin Springer's Documentary 'Along Recovery' Opens Festivus Film Festival on Wednesday

Along Recovery chronicles the two-year recovery of four soldiers evacuated from combat with traumatic brain injuries (TBI) — the signature wound of Afghanistan and Iraq. The result of exposure to the blasts of roadside bombs, TBI can plague soldiers with a combination of severe headaches, impaired cognitive function and behavioral distress.

With unprecedented access inside the Army's flagship combat treatment hospital, Along Recovery depicts the struggles and successes of each soldier as he battles an invisible wound that doctors do not fully understand. Filmmaker Justin Springer produced and directed the film after serving two tours in Iraq with the Army's First Infantry Division. Along Recovery was born from his experiences serving alongside dozens of soldiers struggling with traumatic brain injuries. Along Recovery premiered last May at the GI Film Festival and continues to play at festivals nationwide. It'll open the Festivus Film Festival on Wednesday, February 20, at the Oriental Theater.

Justin Springer relocated to Denver last summer and currently works as a producer and cinematographer for Denver's Image Brew.
