Denver's Cultivator Helps Launch the FIN Electronic Cigarette with Americana Glamour

/ Comments (19)

Greg Owsley, who spent many years with New Belgium Brewing Company creating the brand positioning for Fat Tire Ale and the other New Belgium brews, joined the FIN Electronic Cigarette team in June 2011. After joining, Owsley spent several months studying the electronic cigarette market and crafting the FIN brand story before bringing in the creative team at Denver's Cultivator Advertising & Design to design a fitting logo and packaging.

In that process, Cultivator has also created some Americana-styled advertising — shot by Fort Collins-based photographer Darren Mahuron of Summit Studios. You can see more of the brand's enticing identity at www.fincigs.com and more of the ad campaign at www.summitstyle.com.

Cigarette advertising. Now that's something to be proud of.

Who gives a damn if cigarette advertising is not something to be proud of? It's work, and great work at that.

It is great work.

I knew cigarettes gave you cancer, but I didn't know they also make your arm mysteriously detach from your body.

A lot of people give a damn. Morals and ethics are important in life and in your career and you can't have a different set for each. In my opinion, the lack of them in both promotes and perpetuates this kind of product and it's advertising.

Promoting a known and unfortunately legal carcinogen and killer should not be something to be proud of. This kind of product and it's advertising is not helping people live longer, better and more fulfilling lives, which is something every agency should consider when taking on new clients. Especially as an agency in the healthiest state in the US.

"Fin" For those of you who don't speak French, translation: "End".

I thought the name was pretty ironic.

Wait, this is a joke, right? It's gotta be some anti-smoking campaign. The name translates to "End" for crying out loud.

But if this isn't fake or an anti-smoking campaign, then it's bad photoshop work, a morally low road and a very strange move for Cultivator.

You folks are being ridiculous! This is for a product that is a great alternative for people that are trying to quit or want to stop putting those near them in harms way due to second hand smoke. Its an electronic cigarette. What's the big deal? Get over it. The work is great!

Yea you lollygaggers!

Aren't electronic cigarettes a way to avoid the tar and carcinogens and a lot of people use them to help quit? Any product that keeps the kids in the backseat from suffering is ok by me.

In addition, I think the photoshop work is great. Armando, did you have a hand in this???

"In addition, I think the photoshop work is great. Armando, did you have a hand in this???"

No pun intended?

Perhaps it is Armando's hand because it's definitely not that model's hand.

This is actually great work. As designers, advertisers, marketers, etc... it is our duty to provide great work, unbiased to the social norms of what is considered appropriate. In this case, health issues. Who gives a shit, this is just great work done by summit and Denver.

Seriously?! Agencies that promote the the tobacco industry in ANY FORM seriously suck in my book... especially ones that concept mediocre ads like these. All about the money I guess.

And a BIG thank you to this agency (and photographer) from the families of the millions who have died, and continue to suffer from the effects of big tobacco (and their money grubbing little ad agencies who claim that creativity is morally untouchable).

Come on - if you're going to leave a comment at least know your butt from your elbow! There is NOT ANY TOBACCO in an e-cig! Vegetable Glycine creates most of the vapor. "Big Tobacco" is actually trying to limit access to e-cigarettes because they are going to give everyone a much healthier alternative to smoking that still satisfies the habits they have formed.

E cigs helped me, my wife, father in law, brother in law and his fiancee all quit smoking. I've gotten a few co workers to try them and about half have stopped smoking cigarettes and/or using chewing tobacco. Awesome alternative to the other "quit smoking" aids that failed us for years. Just slowly ween off the e cig, which is much easier than gum/patch/etc, and you're good. My extended family have all said e cigs are what got them to stop smoking and they wouldn't have had it not been for the e cig. BTW, we all used the expensive Joye e cigs, not the FIN, but I have tried a FIN menthol and its good. I do still enjoy an e cig every now and then in place of a cigar or occasional smoke. Oh, and if they were that bad for you, it would be outlawed to "smoke" them in restaurants and such, but they aren't.

THEY. AREN'T. CIGARETTES. christ almighty, do some god damned research before falling victim to your pathetic righteous indignation.

Thank you, they are helping me, have NOT smoked "real" cigarette in 10 days :)
