Factory Code Labs, the new agile software development company launched under parent Factory Design Labs, is officially in business in Denver. You can read more about why they came about and what they've got planned Submit it, but here's the gist.

"The inception for FCL centered on our CMS product Protosite™. Concepted and engineered by the fantastic digital team at our parent company Factory Design Labs, Protosite was created to provide clients with the best and most seamless content entry experience on the market, while at the same time, producing an unparalleled framework that allowed the development teams to spend their time and client budgets on custom site features specific to their needs vs. boiler plate code. With a culture rooted in innovation and digital excellence, we created Factory Code Labs to continue to improve and evolve the software in addition to creating new tools and features that all Protosite users will benefit from."

Meh.

double meh, looks like they put a lot of effort into it...

What are you meh-ing? The site or the concept for the company. The CMS obviously has traction with big-time brands. It's not an idea that should be easily dismissed.

Just not that innovative. They're not the only ones that do this, by far. But I guess when your ad revenue falls off, you need to look elsewhere for the $$.

Their solution: get The North Face to pay to build an entire backend CMS system for their new site and then take that code and re sell it as Protosite.

The name sucks too.

Cool Will, how do you know so much about what exactly they're doing? Got anything else you'd like to add? Hows the agency you work for doing?

Great idea. Super smart. FDL is killing it.

I think it's a solid business decision to turn thousands of development hours into a turn-key product, that can be sold over and over again. Kudos for getting that launched.
The point about "Extraordinary Sites" however seems a bit generic and hard to support with the examples shown.

Anonymous, I don't work for a Denver agency, never would. But admittedly, FDL said they did it. So, thats how I know. The thing I don't lie is that they're making it sound like some major innovation. Its just not.

awesome work. awesome team

Great job Factory. Being "innovative" on the front end is one thing - bringing that kind of thinking to the management of the content is quite another. Kudos.
