Rowdy the Roadrunner in all his glory. Love to hear from all the current students and alumni on this one (especially those getting creative/design degrees from Metro).
Color pallette pops, modern look. Slightly aggressive though for a college no?

I have to say, I'm a disappointed with the new advertising/branding from Metro. Has anyone seen the ad in the new issue of 5280? It's terrible! Why they don't let the students design it (showcasing student work) is beyond me. I would think an ad from a college would be much more effective if it was designed by the students.
As far as the logo, the informal version is better than the formal version, with its terrible kerning, leading and font choices. I think more effort could be made to incorporate the bird with the text and more consideration could be given to the font choices themselves.

I'm not impressed. The type is downright terrible... Did they even spend anytime on that? Seriously.

I think the formal version looks like a first draft, where the fine details were not worked out. The leading and kerning is pretty bad, and I don't like the type choice; I feel like the serif typeface needs to be stronger, and the sans serif is too strong. I also don't like the entire block left justified, the roadrunner feels tacked on.
The informal version is better, I think mostly for the simplicity of the design and the footprint it creates. I feel like the roadrunner needs to be slightly smaller, like 95% of what it is. Still don't dig the typefaces that much, but they work better with fewer letters.
I like that they tried for a modern interpretation, and the roadrunner, though crazed looking, does look better than the old one, in my opinion.
Not only will the school make more money off of students with a fancy new name but now we all need to buy new merchandise. What's next, forced student healthcare? Oh wait!
They should have kept the previous logo with the bird head and the red "M", that one was more appealing to the eyes.

They should have simplified this design more. Too many lines. Something along the lines of the old Toronto BlueJays logo :
I guess it's better than the DU Pioneers logo. That one looks like a piece of wood with a bite taken out of it.

I should add, as a student working towards my BFA in Communication Design at Metro, I'm frustrated about the lack of awareness as to the importance of branding, identity and marketing as it applies to the school itself. How can we be expected to portray that in our portfolios when the school who is supposedly teaching us these design elements can't even portray it?! And what will this lack of awareness mean for the quality and reputation of the design program within Metro?

This was a perfect opportunity to create a dynamic, attention grabbing new logo to go along with the new name, new buildings, new programs, etc. and to bring awareness that this is a school you would want to attend, both for it's branding and marketing and for it's strong presence in the community.
Metro did not accomplish this with these logos or with the ad that was in 5280 magazine.
I am graduating next year with a BFA in Communication Design from Metro, and I just don't feel these logos and subsequent marketing designs represent the college all that well.
I've stared at it for a while, and decided those two fonts really don't go together. They could have spent more time kerning Metropolitan as well. Overall I agree with Amanda, this looks like a Round 1. The type could be more cared for, and the roadrunner could be more simplified to read better.
Metro is a clown college and now they have a logo to match that perception! Seriously though, if you are getting a design degree from Metro, you might wanna… get your $ back.

@inorganik: ha!
Informal: I really like it
Formal: it's just the font stuff that others have mentioned that bug me a bit, but I love the bird!
