Site Launch: Booyah Advertising

/ Comments (11)

Although Denver's Booyah takes advertising seriously, they don’t take themselves too seriously. Instead of building a new website focused on their technology and tools, they focused on their people, culture and results. Collaborating with design partner, Moxie Sozo, they created a site inspired by the birth of direct response advertising in the 1940s.

Everything from font styles to photo treatments was derived from extensive research into old newspapers and trade journals. Photography sets built in-house with old electronics, rotary telephones, typewriters and ticker tape gave the team an environment to show their personality and contrast against the high-tech theme used by others in the space. “I know it’s our people that set us apart in the field. Since everyone says that, I wanted to prove it by making them the stars of our site and highlighting the specific work they’ve done for clients,” says President, Troy Lerner. The website was developed by Booyah’s SEO team and built on WordPress.

All of the clothing was authentic vintage from Chic Antiques in Denver. All the photography was done by Crystal Allen Photography and the treatments applied to the photos in post production were done by Booyah’s Creative Team and Crystal Allen.

Risky using so many different typefaces on a site, but they pulled it off extremely well. Great stuff

Cool concept but the typography is really sloppy in some spots. Also, the nav dropdowns look weirdly aligned (and too small). Overall, nice for a soft beta launch.

wow bad

Nice site. Now that it's launched, it will be cool to check back in a few months to see if they have the v2 site done with more responsive design so it looks good on mobile too.

hmmmm. nice effort, though a bit embarassing.

I'm impressed. risky concept but they pulled it off...

decent looking site, have to agree about using too many typefaces. Also the slider moves super slow.

and yeah, is a bit embarrassing, but at least they know how to spell.

Hey Booya people, please do a better job hiding your identity when posting here. People never say "it'll be cool to check back soon to see if v2 is up... blah blah blah" about sites like this. Yes, the build is amateurish - as if it were designed by committee - but if you are actually able to pull off a full fledged responsive design retrofit (in house, with your people) then I'LL be impressed. Good luck!

- kill the logo
- kill Impact
- kill brush script

= win

Interesting idea, but a little "played out" if you ask me. I like some of the functionality, but thank god I am not a Booyah employee. How embarrassing for some of those poor people.

I'm tired of seeing people on this site anonymously comment with critical and self-righteous feedback. Imagine a supportive design community!

I think this site has some cool ideas- especially the photography on the biographies.
