The Dark Knight Project - Via Colorado Photographer Brian Bailey & Retoucher Armando Martinez

Colorado photographer Brian Bailey and Denver retoucher Armando Martinez recently collaborated on a personal project called The Dark Knight. The theme for the endeavor was 'Parkour meets Gotham City' — showcasing the fluid movement of Parkour with a backdrop of gothic cityscapes.

After Brian completed a still and motion shoot with some Denver Parkour athletes a couple years ago, he came up with the idea of shooting this unique sport in a way that he hadn't seen before. "I have always been fascinated with all things dark: music, art, movies. After realizing the vision of my project, I reached out to Armando who immediately loved the idea and even suggested some locations. From there, I started virtual scouting via Google streetview. Shortly after, I headed to Denver and scouted all the locations. The entire series was shot at night over the course of the past year. All of the talent was shot in camera, on location. Our goal was to transform common Denver landmarks into a dark and sinister world."

Martinez said, "I loved the idea of taking Denver and turning it into a dark cinematic backdrop for the renegade sport of Parkour. Knowing that Bailey hated the HDR look, I enjoyed the technical challenge of creating natural looking backgrounds for the series."

"We do this type of work because we love it, even if it's not client driven, we wanted a project of passion," said Bailey. "This is our unique view of the city."
