What Do You Think of This Denver Invention, Hot Straw?

Hot Straw fits right through that hole in a Starbuck's lid and lets you sip a drink from a straw, instead of spilling it all over that fancy blouse when you hit a pothole. It's also reusable and dishwasher safe. It was invented by Colorado's own Dawn Miracle while working on research trials for Parkinson’s disease. She realized that the disease (and accompanying shaking tremors) kept patients from enjoying the simple pleasure of a nice, hot beverage.

So she sought out to create a straw that was designed to “take the heat,” but also shaped it to fit the sipping hole of a to-go coffee lid just in case her patients had a bad case of tremors. Soon, all her friends were asking for it.

So what do you think? Worthy idea?

I've been doing this with normal straws from Coke soda fountains for years. A special "hot" straw is not necessary. Did she even put a normal straw in her coffee to see if it melted first?

I would consider using this product, but I agree that a regular straw might work. I'd love to have a straw that cools hot drinks as you sip, I'm so tired of burning my tongue on hot chocolate, or having to wait a while for it to cool. Suppose I'm just sensitive though...

It heps the drippage, and annoying hole drinking 'ick'. The only thing better would be an awesome colored, bendy hospital straw or just taking the lid of -- it's genius.

If you look at regular straws, they specifically say "not for use in hot liquids" because the plastic actually beings to melt in a hot coffee.

Very cool product, it's great that the design fills a specific need and translates over to practical use for the masses. I'm passing this along to the coffee shop I frequent to see if they can start carrying them.

Coke straws melt chemicals into your coffee because they don't withstand the heat. That is why Starbucks has it printed on the wrapper of each straw to not use in hot beverages. This is a great idea!

Love it! I like that it was designed with 2 holes, so it is more like sipping coffee rather than getting a hug gulp of hot liquids. Seems like it will work much better than other straws.
