Goodbye Cypher13. Hello Berger & Föhr.
In a curt Tweet yesterday afternoon (which will be the company's last), Boulder design studio cypher13 announced it was closing down. The message: "Cypher13 has ended. Goodbye Cypher13. Berger & Föhr has begun. Hello @BergerFohr. bergerfohr.com."
A visit to the Cypher13 website further explains the end of one company and the beginning of the next. Good luck to Todd and Lucian in their new endeavor with Berger & Föhr.
UPDATE: Todd Berger got back to us this morning with some more insights on what's changed and why they've decided to start anew.
"We are proud of the work and ideas that Cypher13 has put forth. But, we wish to do more and we wish to communicate our desire to do so. Times have changed – we continue to change – and we believe that we have more to offer than ever before. We have honed our philosophy, our process – our craft and we know it to be of value.
We believe an important step towards communicating our desire to work, the sectors we wish to work within, and the value we are capable of delivering is to clarify who we are, what we wish to do, and how we wish to do it. So, the moniker that once buffered us from our work, our clients, and our goals has been removed. We have grown more transparent.
We are two, Todd Berger and Lucian Föhr. We own and operate a two-man design studio. We practice cohesive visual communication characterized by modernism, minimalism, objectivity and the desire to create lasting, sustainable work. We do not seek growth in terms of size or number of employees. We choose to pursue quality over quantity – in all things – at whatever cost. We wish to do our work ourselves – we do not wish to direct others. We believe ourselves to be the most fit to do this work. We choose objectivity over subjectivity, accountability over bureaucracy, and personal responsibility over ambiguity. These are the principles we uphold and the place from which our work originates. We are driven by our vision, experience, commitment and a compulsion to put our skills to work to improve the world in which we live.
Our studio exists to support entities and individuals in the possession of socially equitable information, ideas and assets. These are the sorts we wish to align with and to leverage our skills on behalf of.
Berger & Föhr is committed to the triple bottom line – people, planet and profit – and runs its studio accordingly.
We are selectively seeking clients in the following sectors; Arts & Culture, Community & Education, Health & Well Being, Innovation & Sustainability, Science & Technology."
