CU-Boulder Journalism School to Shut Down

/ Comments (3)

The CU regents voted last Thursday, by a vote of 5 to 4, to close the University of Colorado's journalism school in Boulder – effective June 30, 2011. It is the first college to be shut down in the university's history. Several of those who voted for its closure claim the media landscape has changed and the school has not done a good job adapting.

While it's unfortunate this is happening in our backyard, we believe the majority of schools today are sending graduates into the real world completely unprepared. A similarly critical eye should be applied to all schools educating kids for creative-industry careers. Go looking to hire a junior for any agency position you want filled and you'll see exactly what we mean.

Erik, so long as the robots evolve to look more like a "Six" than a "Four", well then...

To give a bit more background. The School of Journalism and Mass Comm also housed CU's advertising program. Will be interesting to see whether all eggs are being put into BDW, or if a new ad program will be instituted under the umbrella of a different college.
