Sukle Rolls Out First Phase of Denver Water Campaign

/ Comments (4)

Sukle Advertising & Design, Denver has launched the online and radio portion of its annual campaign for Denver Water. The radio commands men to be proud of their time of the month – in this case, the time of the month when they should set their sprinklers lower because it's spring, and not yet summer.

To help remind men of their time of the month (to turn back the amount of watering time), the website allows them to download manly ringtones, such as a chainsaw, muscle car, battle cry or guitar solo. Phase two of the campaign will be on the way shortly.

I think my first question to Sukle and team would have to be one of strategy. I'm not sure how this is plugging into the "use only what you need" direction. I also think there is a confusing juxtaposition between the "be manly" message and the "time of the month" verbiage. I'm not sure what one has to do with the other actually. As someone who is a great, great admirer of both Sukle and the Denver Water campaign, this one left me scratching my head. Maybe I'm not the target, but I have to wonder what the takeaway from this is? Does any real man want his own "time of the month," something that he would use as a derogatory phrase for women when they are being less than agreeable? And what is manly about setting a sprinkler? Too many questions for me on this one. I was really excited to see/hear new work, but I am just feeling confused about this one. Just my two cents, which I appreciate you giving me by not posting on the new Comment Free Fridays.

I loved the first campaign - thought it was brilliant - easy to understand, to the point, crystal clear in what it was. Feel like this one is a bit of a stretch...I get where it's going, with a little thought. I feel like the approach is very cliche, too expected, and way to over-done by our friends at the beer companies....

If you want to be really manly, and use only what you need, you could water the grass by getting women to cry on it. Just a few carefully chosen abusive phrases...

I'm surprised that Denver Water would go with this. I find this pretty offensive and very immature. What about all the single women that own homes? And what about the many women who set their sprinkler timers?

What are we in the 50s or 60s?
