DVLP Clothing Touts Its New Denim Line
The in-house creative team at Denver's DVLP Clothing just shot this online spot for their new men's denim line. They note, "We hope Denver likes it. We also hope Denver likes the way our denim gives their legs a nice hug." Hugs and Denver go hand in hand.

Remind me not to use the bathroom at Crema now...
Great clothes, great ad, great job DVLP crew!
so impressive!!!
I went and checked them out on their online store...gonna get a few pairs :)
that was some straight cheeeeeeeeeeese... yeesh..
-Chestie
yikes. that was cheesy as hell.
With all the talented creative shops in Denver, why would an upstart shoot their own promo? To save money.
In the long run they have made a mistake. The spot is, as some have already pointed out, cheezy. The only thing cool about it is the bike.
I would recommend they not fuck up their brand name any further with pathetic crap like this.
Seriously. It's time to get real.
creative star nailed it.
ha ha...people just love to criticize.
that was so well done.... creative filming, great editing, and interesting little story.
Not sure why boyah and creative star are hating on this?
love the depth of field/camera work.
Some are looking at the production and not the content. Agreed, solid film work and editing... well put together in general. But if a beautiful car doesn't run it won't get you anywhere....
I do give props to DVLP. They are pushing it, putting product out and the piece shows the passion for their work. A lot can be said for that alone...
DVLP's denim looks sick!
This video definitely makes me wanna buy a pair...
Come on you guys? Great filming? Great editing? You must be on some street-drugs.
1. the only good shot(s) in this are at :07 of the church top or whatever that is. the rest is rookie cheese. the color grading.. yikes. and there was wayyy too much cheese in the beginning with all the "revs" on the handle grip.
2. get rid of the emotionless hipsters and get some people with real energy in this spot. I don't get it... they walk into a cafe and stand there staring blankly at the register with sh!t-eating grins? there must be some tasty looking croissants up there or something.
3. just because the director of this went out and bought a DSLR to play with doesn't automatically make this a "creative film". i mean think about it... the shots aren't great. its that DOF you guys are drooling over.
4. the jeans look ok but i wouldn't buy a pair of jeans with the crotch ripped out (especially after this video.) but i guess if you're a hipster, letting your genitalia flop around for the world to see is the style.
5. the audio in this is terrible. never add audio of shoes walking across the ground when there is no other audio in the piece. on top of that, the sounds of the exterior straight cut-off, no fade or anything. just plain bad mixing. you should of left out all sounds except the song, period. rookie mistake #542.
6. why is the girl walking into a cafe with a pair of jeans on her shoulders anyway? is that what people do in this DVLP world? walk around with jeans on their shoulders? wear jeans as scarves? then she just leaves them at that dudes table.. she doesn't know him. what if he takes them and runs? he could of made off with... well i couldn't find the price of the jeans on their website because it looks like its still "under construction" in the women's denim section, but i'm guessing they are around $70. then he follows her into the dressing room, what if he was a rapist? so on that note... the story telling wasn't there for me either. just looks like the director wanted to do the classic "guy and girl meet randomly and fall in love based on eachothers jean choice" storyline. seen it a million times.
Moral of the story: if you've got a legit jean company, make a legit commercial :)
-Coach
...I work for a large fashion house in New York.
Coach sounds like an amateur movie critic tearing apart every "un-realistic and/or non-simple" scene in a movie. They seem to miss the entire point of trying something new and being creative.
In response:
1. really...you are gonna say that the only good shot is the one of the church? what are you the "Coach" of anyway?
2. there was tons of emotion portrayed in this video... but it is fun to hate on things you do not understand isn't it?
3. this is a completely irrelevant comment filled with assumptions. Unique pieces of culture were pulled together to create a story...yes a little abstract at points, but very intriguing.
4. Ha ha... I guess Coach did not pick up on the story line.
The dude has a pair of old worn out jeans that he probably wears every day because he loves them. Then some city girl walks in with a brand new pair (weird I admit, but maybe she has a fetish). So they do an exchange...and the dude gets a fresh new pair. stoked!
5. I guess "Coach" makes up the rules on audio... thanks Coach!!!
6. Refer back to #4.... the story seemed pretty clear to me. And the link on the top goes to the Mens Denim page...which is obviously what they are promoting in this commercial. I could not even find a Womens Denim page .... probably means they have not been released yet (which makes this is a great marketing tool for future product...this strategy is used all the time by smart companies).
Yes this story line has been told a million times, but not like this.
Well done DVLP!!!
oh yeah....on another note.
CreativeStar might be the cheesiest screen name I have ever heard.
- Shane
Shane... you probably made the graphics on this junky amateur commercial didn't you? I knew it. and what fashion company in NY do you work? Target? I don't need to repeat everything I already said. I still hold strong- the commercial sucks, the shots are not good, the editing isn't great, and no, there is no emotion in this piece at all except for the girl stoked that she's about to get railed in a dressing room. plain and simple.
oh p.s. I "Coach" your mom in the sack, thats where the nickname comes from :) have a good one!
The video is weak. Period.
"Shane", how can you work for "large fashion house in NY" (Ed Hardy?) and think this video is any good? you must have friends in DVLP, and if you do than you should care enough to tell them they dropped the ball here. No one is saying DVLP sucks, just this video. Its awful. Its not unique.
Oh, and there was a point to that? Everyone that I know of who has seen it has said the same thing..."cheesy and weird". The only thing redeemable part of the video is that girl.
Hopefully DVLP can come back next time with something hot! But, Coach nailed it. But looks like the be all end all of good ("Shane") should hit the books.
wow... it is pretty sad to see people hate on creativity and passion.
I have never met anyone from DVLP, but I have to agree with Eric HInes. They are producing solid product and this video shows the passion behind that. You all have some good points...but dang, there is nothing "weak" about this video! It is great and gets me hyped!!!
It could definitely have been done better, but I would like to see Coach, GM or CreativeStar doing something even half this good.
I do work in NY for a fashion house (will not disclose), but love Denver!!!
I never comment on Blogs but I agree with Shane...
stop with the hating.
the video is nothing but quality!!!!
The guys ass looks good in 'em. Isn't that all that really matters?
ha ha ha...
The audio was unnecessary as was the not so subtle lewd implication, and the concept was under developed, ironically. But the camera work as well as the shooting and editing seemed fine. The only thing I think really missed the mark here was that it doesn't at all capture what I thought DVLP was about which is creating a life style brand for alternative- skate/snowboard -creatives and pushing to advance the community. They should have taken more advantage of the people they know and the city they live in. I think this just feels cold and distant, a poor approach to a nice looking video.
Shane, its sad that this video gets you "hyped". This video makes my eyeballs hemorrhage out of my face its so bad. I feel terrible for the "fashion house" you work for if this is the kind of viewing material that gets you pumped.
To be totally honest here Shaney-waney, I sh!t out (or contribute to sh!tting out) stuff better than this on a daily basis. So don't even go there, son. You've still got much to learn in the production field apparently.
Hey Shane... I think Joan from the fabric department down there at your fashion house needs you to go make her some copies :) Take care.
Coach-
You got to love people who claim that they are the epitome of whats good
because they work at some place in New York.
Mr. Claim-guy (Shane),
i hope to god you are just answering phones or making coffee at this fashion house in NYC. If you can't recognize a subpar product with your almighty eyes, then there is no hope left in the world. May Shane have mercy on all our souls.
Get over yourself, dude. There is nothing more pathetic than someone who has to announce to the world that they are so god-damn awesome. New York is a great place with lots of great shops, i figure since your swimming in it you should know if something sucks or not.
Best of luck to DVLP, but this was just not good.
peace.
ha ha... I am actually from Oregon....but am a designer in New York.
I am certainly no better or smarter then anyone else for working in New York (that was silly of me to even say that I worked out there in my comments).
If you all wanna hate then hate....it makes me laugh!
My opinion remains the same. The video is unique and I have not seen something like this!!! So yeah, I love it...and I think it will speak to a lot of smart creative people.
I used to live and work in Denver. Now I live and work in NY. The only difference is that people here work more hours. That is it. NY is not above having shitty shops with bad talent that will go out of business in a year.
I'll have to side with coach and the "haters" here. This is tired and old. It is trying to be a Levis commercial from 5 years ago. Coach obviously knows what he is talking about technically.
I agree from a design/production/story standpoint as well. "More cheese than a Nickleback album" This story probably happens 5 times a day in Williamsburg, but that does not make it a good promotional video.
I love cheese.....ummm....expecially when grilled between some sourdough.
I also like stretch denim .... and sunshine
