Long Live Long Copy #4

This self-promo ad comes from Denver agency Amélie Company. So far, it's run in the French American Chamber of Commerce magazine, promoting the shop's wares to whoever might read such a publication. BTW, Amélie's got a new blog worth checking out too at Fine. We'll Call It Soccer.

kinda dig it. nice to see something besides the ubiquitous visual-pun-with-a-logo execution.

normally when you say "excuse my french" it's because you said fuck, shit, asshole, or some other kind of obscene word.

Will, as the writer of the ad I can tell you that 'damned' was not the first word I used. It was the obligatory f-bomb. We decided to reign it in a bit because it seemed like we were trying too hard to be shocking, when there was a different message to get across here. I think it still works though. And thanks Larry.

This has Suggett written all over it, and I mean that as a compliment. Nice job Sooj, make some shit happen over there. Although your obsession with copy and Bernbach is showing.

Or was the pinball machine actually purchased with extra cash made by marking up cheap stock photos on those awful Westerra billboards?

@soojay: wasn't hating, just needed an excuse to be obscene.

I'm not certain what the [french] this ad is supposed to be, other than achingly self-referential.

Is the idea to present Amelie as the agency that likes pinball more than the apparent challenge of creating an ad without using a stock photo? If so, well done.

i didn't catch the excuse my french/damned connection. "fucking" would've worked much better. preferably closer to the beginning of the first sentence.

go big or go home.

I find the copy to be INXS.

Nobody Cares.

No offense to you, Paul...you just happen to work for assholes.

Nice work guys. Seeing a lot of new stuff coming out from you guys.

I'd give my name but people will accuse me of bias since I know Gordy and Suggett. But seriously, give these guys a chance. They both have solid backgrounds and good books. Amelie may not be much, but they could be. Hey, Crispin weren't all that until Bogusky came on. Not comparing the two, but some of you guys would kiss this ad's ass if it had come from TDA or Sukle. It's a concept ad. They spent the money on a pinball machine instead of buying a stock shot. They used long copy when most people are using visual ads. Would I have done it this way? Maybe, maybe not. But it sure beats the hell out of most self-promos coming out of this state, or any other. So there. :-P
