Sterling-Rice Group Hires New CD, And Many Others

/ Comments (17)

Boulder's Sterling-Rice Group has hired Wade Paschall as creative director to oversee the company’s advertising campaigns for clients, including Waterpik, Bernina, and Almond Board of California, among others.

Paschall comes to SRG most recently from Arnold Worldwide in Boston, where he served as vice president and group creative director, overseeing the global communications for Jack Daniel’s. Previously, Paschall served as a copywriter at both Ogilvy & Mather and BBDO West in their New York City and Los Angeles offices working on a variety of consumer brands, including American Express, IBM, Apple, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Panera.

This video, that parodies 'The Office,' introduces Paschall (who has a pretty funny line in the piece), along with what seems like a dozen or so other new hires. Congrats on your recent growth, SRG.

That is not funny.

Not only is that not funny, it's embarrassing.

The new CD himself admits the script is bad. Come on, there's a little humor in that.

Obviously some people missed the point!

Parodies of "The Office" were funny in 2005. Now, even my dad's real estate office is doing them. The concept is tired, the lines are weak and the performances are painful to watch.

The CPB interns set the bar last summer. Take notes, SRG. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kcyZhe2RnQk

I definitely think that $100 bucks went the distance haha

I wish I could erase SRG from my work history.

It wasn't that bad. The company itself is conservative and their work tends to be safe and middle of the road - so, whenever they try to do something current or fresh they come off pathetic.

If they stick to selling almonds and sewing machines to old ladies and leave this twenty first century advertising thing to the rest of us, they'll be okay.

"Obviously some people missed the point!"

No, I think most people posting here got it right.

It's just a new-hire video welcoming new creative folks to Boulder
Please support Boulder Creative

Efforts like this from local companies make it easier for all of US to do what WE love in a great town, to have a creative future in Boulder, let's grow this community. Let's praise every attempt to be creative.

SRG never had to share it... was obviously meant to be internal...

Anyhow, thank you for the posting

PickupTruck,

I see your point but If you're that interested in promoting Boulder and it's creative community, I would think you'd be calling for a higher caliber of product than this. This video does nothing to promote our community, it serves to enforce the stereotype that we're a sub par fly-over state. Even if it's just a new hire/intern vid - it all matters.

Several years ago I wrote an agency named Core asking for reprints of their Epiphone work. Someone there was nice enough to send me the whole campaign as huge 24x36 posters. I used them to decorate my basement. I think Wade Paschall was the writer on that campaign. So welcome to Colorado, Wade. And thanks for the reprints.

I want to see local agencies put out great work because it helps the Denver creative scene. But if I start hating on work I don't like by leaving comments on forums like the Denver Egotist and YouTube, I hurt the Denver creative scene. There's a disconnect there.

If you really want to change the view that our community is a "sub-par fly-over state," you need to help the agencies around you.

The flip side of that is that those agencies have to be open to it and willing to put in the work to get better.

I'm asking the homies at SRG to leave a comment on this thread, agree to remake the video and open the gates up for constructive, creative ideas on how they can do that. SRG, what say you?

I think we should also start a dialogue on dos and don'ts for promotional videos. My suggestions:

No rap videos. Nope, not even that kind of rap video.
Nothing longer than 2 minutes.
If you don't have people who have studied acting, don't ask them to act.
Consider what makes Denver/Boulder unique and whether you could incorporate some of it into your video.

Faithfully yours,
Fernando

Matt Ingwalson: Yes, I was at Core for ten years prior to Arnold. I remember you inquiring about the Epiphone posters and sending them to you. As I recall you sent a very nice thank you note afterward. Glad you like them. Thanks for the welcome. Glad to be here.

Fernando: I'm not a big believer in living in the past so it's doubtful we'll remake this one. It was just an internal thing welcoming new people to SRG. Wish I could take credit for my line in the video, but it was written by the writer who put it all together. And who did a fine job despite the lack of time, money, and acting talent (see delivery by me of said line).

Best to all,

-Wade Paschall

Meh, it is what it is. I'm wondering why the interior of your office looks like a corporate cube farm from the 80s/90s. What's up with that?

The video is now "private". I'm unable to view it.

Core was an awesome agency back in the day. We're looking forward to seeing your work for SRG, Wade. Glad you're here. Boulder/Denver needs more leaders of your caliber.
