Keep Your Job if You Have One

We spotted this want ad from Denver's Norris Design on the Creative Hotlist today and it jolted us. What a sad state-of-affairs we're in when a studio is looking to hire a Receptionist / Graphic Designer. They even chose to mention receptionist before designer in the position's title. Bleh.

Sadness. I left my job as a designer there almost two years ago. Granted, they are a landscape architecture firm rather than a design firm, and they got hit really hard by the recession, but those job titles should never meet if you have more than 5 employees.

maybe it's not so bad. do you get two salaries?

It's a possibility that they have their hearts set on hiring Pam from The Office, so they merely decided create the hybrid position that only she could fill.

Could be a good job for Siamese twins.

Right, like there's a designer who can carry a conversation on the phone...

Better than a writer/bookkeeper. Or developer/food stylist.

Why not receptionist-CEO? Sounds like it may be headed in that direction.

Thank you for sharing this. I was just as shocked when I saw this posting. Why stop there? Now hiring a Receptionist/Graphic Designer/Janitor.

I think it says a lot about the company and how the value graphic design.
