Oncemany: Ingenious Photog Promo
Shane Rich, a photographer in Boulder, has just launched a 365-day photographic marketing project at oncemany.com. He’s booking each day in 2010 for one client to have their business or individual message endorsed through his photography. He’ll work with each client to create their message, then utilize his blog and other means of social media to document and market the results to the masses.
Each day of the year is being sold for its numerical value, meaning Jan. 1st = $1, Jan. 2nd = $2… and Dec. 31st = $365. Beyond the social media exposure, each client gets a permanent spot and link on his projects website – and they receive a limited edition (1 of 1), signed gallery-quality archival print of the final photograph chosen to interpret the day. Book a day for you or one of your clients now.

Interesting idea, but it lacks in execution – even though I know it must be difficult to pull this off daily.
It basically boils to finding a photo he’s already taken that closely resembles some company. The photography ALREADY has little to do with these companies (a bird for a hotel?) and it looks too much like stock. With HDR.
Just seems like a cheap tactic to get attention to mediocre photography – and it’s working.
nice idea.
This is a great idea, but it seems like more thought and preparation/promotion needs to go into a project like this. As a potential client, there’s not a very deep portfolio to review. And why do I care if my idea gets tweeted to his 12 followers on Twitter?
Still, it’s good to see people trying unusual approaches to finding work.
Love this. Desperate times, Desperate measures. Good to see people getting creative for the times.
I think the bird for the hotel is great. It’s a play on words of the blog title “Fly south…”. I think his point is to represent the clients differently. A photo of the hotel or its rooms would be boring.
If you build it, they will come, and so will the Twitter followers. It’s new and cheap to book now, by the end of the year when its costly I bet it has a big following (and worth every penny). You get an art print regardless. Interested to see how it all plays out.
Good Luck Shane and kudos on trying something different.
Same idea as very successful iwearyourshirt.com but I don’t mean that as a knock. I love seeing these new ideas of promotion spread around in lots of different ways.
I’m scheduled for my photo shoot tomorrow. I paid $7 for an edition of 1 (?!@$). Killer deal. In honor of the $7 we’re doing a portrait take on the 7 deadly sins. I’m excited. As a photographer, I don’t really get my picture made often.
I don’t think it matters too much if the project succeeds or fails. We’ll hopefully all learn something through the effort. Kudos to Shane for trying something fresh.
can you say retouching nightmare..
Great creative thinking. Can’t wait to see how it pans out.
Whatever the photographic skills or current # of Twitter followers, it’s better to do something than nothing.
I think that this is a cool concept and want to see it succeed.
Amen, Grant. Give a guy with a brilliant idea some credit.
Brilliant? This site is a complete ripoff of www.iwearyourshirt.com , and enough with the HDR.
Original or not, I admire him. I hope it is brilliantly successful. To the naysayers who have nothing better to do other than shoot down ideas….what the $@*# are YOU doing that is interesting?
so much hdr makes baby jesus cry.
what’s HDR ?
HDR = High dynamic range it is a photographic filter effect http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_dynamic_range_imaging
People shouldn’t be so critical. For one it is early in this project, and it will evolve over time. I think it’s a neat take on putting yourself out there to try new things. Evolutionary projects usually end very different from how they begin.
