Introducing the New 2010 ADCD Annual Show
From our friends at Art Directors Club of Denver...
At ADCD's Annual Show last year, we saw the good. We saw the bad. Soon after, we heard both.
Well, we're launching a new format, an experiment of sorts that several us agree is a giant step for a more progressive show.
The 2010 Annual Show will have fifteen categories. The goal is you want to enter and win that category. The fifteen top winners will be "representatives" of the entire creative community. No longer will we have ADDY-driven categories like :30 TV Commercial, $30,000-$40,000 budget, Running during the Golden Girls Marathon.
We have a broadcast category. That's it. Enter all your broadcast. Likewise, we have a photography category. We have a social media category. You get the idea.
Best of Show and Judge's Choices are gone. We still have gold, silver, and bronze, but you want to win the category and have your work be on this holistic circle of 15 top winners. Ultimately, we think this reflects ADCD's stance of community first. We wanted to pay homage to our past and wanted a more modern show format that stands separate from the brilliant Denver 50 concept.
For judges, we have three locked in: Clint Runge of Archrival, Blake Bakken of VenablesBell and Paul Elledge. The call-for-entries is at adcdawardshows.com.

Is the poster or comment the hater?
Holla
Is that your poster in my comment? Or your hater in my holla? Horrible when that happens.
the designer who did this poster fucking copied Patrick Nagel's style
It's funny—all they do over there is copy other peoples work and re-package it
By happen-stance, horrible is my hater in my poster holla. Comment.
Nagel would never has as much detail. While both Nagel and this illustration are both nods to Art Deco, there are enough differences to make it new again today. Also, Nagel would be very flat and non dimensional compared to this. Nagel used less vibrant colors and was a fan of blue/steel grays. The only similarity I see is the white face. That's it. Look at your own book, I'd bet we could find nods to plenty of old ideas or elements borrowed from one or two decades ago.
The illustration is great. The show... looking forward to supporting the local community and the new direction.
nice concept. great illustration.
looks like they just took all of their old work and mashed it together. they seem to re-use a lot of their work for new projects.
wait... there is a concept in here?

spot on. had to look at their work to see. but yep.
great work for I'm assuming is a pro bono project. why all of the hate on an otherwise unassuming piece?
horrible is belief

hey poster of this comment
- you should put up some of your totally original work
on the no comment fridays- because so much work in the world is
'original', i'd like to see what departures you actually make from the so-called unoriginal work floating around in the world.
put up or shut up
Nagel? not even close dumb ass
if you think that looks like nagel
i can only imagine how wacky your work must be
with your untrained eyes.
looks more like a lot of collage vomit work you see all over the place
ad nausea
hey everyone,
I met with the NEXT creatives this evening. Wonderful group, and Mike Sukle put together a great creative brief for their project next week.
In any case, I just had a chance to read all of your comments on our ADCD poster.
• Yes, pro bono project.
• Yes, the deadline was short.
• Yes, we created a mash up of various illustrated pieces we've completed over the past year or so.
• Yes, there is a concept.
• Yes, some of you have too much time on your hands.
Enjoy your evening o'Anonymous world,
L
I think it’s a pretty rad looking piece of work. Well Done!
It does remind me of some 2004 era work capitalized on by L-R-G and D-Zone. Forgive my ignorance if this style was made popular sooner or elsewhere.
advertising is so bad ass.
Actions have reactions, don't be quick to judge. You may not know the harships, people don't speak of. It's best to step back and observe with couth. For we all must meet our moment of truth. Guru
