Victors & Spoils Picks a Logo
The new Boulder agency built on crowdsourcing picked their company logo – developed, aptly, through crowdsourcing. Your take?

1100 entries to come up with a pseudo logo from Italy. What a joke. V and S hasn’t shown anything of a new bus. model and the way they handled their logo shows that the future doesn’t bode well.
A little Third Reich’ish. I like where mine was going better but I only allocated an hour to work on it and missed the deadline.

Hate to say it, but I don’t mind it. Has a Shepard Fairey feel to it (for better or worse).
They need to drop the “Solving problems…” line, too damn small and too many messages, no one’s gonna read that shit.
That being said, take off “Power to the brand.” and this is a skateboard logo.
Why do only 3 of the 4 “fans” at the very bottom have a continuing outline??? It’s killing me…
Hmm. I think it needs more, it’s just way to simple right now. How about a starburst?
I hear ya on the skateboard logo thing, it’s too ‘king baby’ for me anyway.
…love the starburst idea, maybe if were ‘dimensional’…
Congratulations.
You’ve created a monster out of a mishmash of clichés ranging from a curly Dover clip art banner from the civil-war era 1800’s, to a pseudo-Russian Constructivist star-banner-thingy from the 1920’s, to a… hidden hex sign at the bottom? Oh, and some of your type doesn’t read at actual size. Then again, maybe since you care about style over substance – it doesn’t really matter anyway.
A 100 monkeys typing on 100 typewriters for 100 years, will not produce a work of Shakespeare. Personally, I’d rather hire 1 big brain and skip the 100 monkeys hoping to strike it rich. Actually, hire several big brains and put them on salary. Let each of them compete for the project, knowing that they can walk up to the edge of the known world, take one step further, and still receive a paycheck if they fail. Big ideas require taking risks. Crowdsourcing encourages solutions with the highest probability of being chosen. In other words: safe solutions.
So go have your 100 monkeys. I’ll take the 1 big brain.
From their website: “See you in Cannes”.
umm. Forget Cannes. I hope to see you in 2010.
i wish V&S the best of luck. cool idea.
“See you in Cannes”….yeah, that’s what every client wants to hear.
Power to the brand or power to the people. Which is it? If they’re all about crowd sourcing principles, shouldn’t it be power to the people?
I’m disappointed at the crowdsourcing of the logo and at the same time get it but wonder how come I didn’t hear about it on the DE? Did I miss it?
Anyway, I think the logo is neither here nor there and I like monkeys but they play with their own poo.
ho-hum.
My mom could crowdsource a logo. The only thing is that she would of picked a better one. What is your value again?
Welcome aboard the Victors and Spoils cruise.
That is a propeller at the bottom isn’t it?
What a great deal paying 1000$ for that logo! Great marketing extravaganza!
Hope you paid the creatives a fair and honest wage, but I doubt it.
Totally narcissistic. Typical Boulder – this would never fly in NY or LA.
Crowdsourcing so far has undervalued our industry. It would be different if the concept paid standard logo rates instead of the $300-1000 I’ve seen on various CS sites.
quantity over quality.
Victors and Spoils = Sphincters and Boils
looking forward to seeing this on stationary/web applications.
*feels sorry for the press person
crowdSPRING as a business model = race to the bottom, IMO. This looks like a beer label on top of a doily. When you’re in the business, it is easy to lose perspective when it comes to your own image.
I really feel like they had a good ‘idea’ but are executing it all wrong… (I guess this will be seen in the future)
If they are going to run all their work off crowdspring then whats the point of the agency?
Maybe if they created their own pool of vetted designers to call upon when a job needs them that might be something.
If they are going to run all their work off crowdspring then whats the point of the agency?
Touche. They are actually hurting themselves, in the process of hurting all of us. Which makes the bragging on their announcement page all the more offensive.
if it doesn’t work out they can always sell it to Shiner for beer money.Proudly crowdsourcing Texas breweries since 2009.
2 much
might want to fire their css guy as well.
“100 monkeys typing on 100 typewriters for 100 years, will not produce a work of Shakespeare.”
i feel the need to set the record straight regarding this misquoted mathematical axiom, here is the actual premise:
the infinite monkey theorem states that a monkey hitting keys at random on a typewriter keyboard for an infinite amount of time will almost surely type a given text, such as the complete works of william shakespeare.
Thank you Dish. I feel so much better now that you have clarified the monkeys for us.
