The cool part about this is that the organization, Pathways To Housing, asked people to help by texting (instead of by phone call or otherwise) – and then those participants got the instant gratification of seeing the difference they could make. Agency: Sarkissian Mason.

Mother London has gotten really good at doing work that leaves you intrigued, instead of giving you every effin, client-imposed bullet point – which tends to leave you bored out of your gourd.

  • Ideal Woman: 36-24-36

    March 12th, 2010 / Comments (6)

Allie Pohl, a candidate for a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Electronic Media Arts & Design at the University of Denver, would like to invite you to her upcoming show – Ideal Woman: 36-24-36.

This unique exhibition comments on the female body in its idealized form – encouraging visitors to grab and squeeze the sculptural forms which reflect the measurements of the perfect woman.

"Social norms and gender roles throughout history have influenced the desired physical form that the female body takes. In this digital age, women are inundated with images that culturally outline feminine beauty. Often, these commercially packaged versions of beauty are simply illusions created by advanced technology, such as digital image alteration and/or plastic surgery resulting in cookie cutter woman.

I am interested in society’s obsession with the image of ‘the perfect woman.’ The iconic figure demonstrates our culture’s desire to emulate a look that seems naturally impossible to attain. In my work, I have created an iconic female figure by dissecting the ideal woman, Barbie, to visually express my concerns."

  • Quick Left Presents FriendsWithYou

    March 11th, 2010 / Comments (2)

FriendsWithYou – a unique creative think-tank that does everything from fine art to large-scale experiential installations and interactive events to public playgrounds, directorial work, live performances, animation and multimedia projects, branding and licensing – came to Boulder web engineering company Quick Left for an update to the look and feel of their website. FWY's previous site relied heavily on Flash to communicate their playful nature with sound design and animation, but the lack of Flash support on smart phones was a challenge they wanted to overcome. Additionally, they wanted to update their storefront to accommodate a growing customer base and ever-expanding product line. Quick Left's challenge was to utilize standards-based markup to create an equally interactive and playful website that could be seen across more platforms.

The FriendsWithYou site has three major components. First, it has a custom content management system that allows FWY to add and update content without having to know complex markup or code. The second major component is a highly customized Magento integration. Magento is a feature-rich open source ecommerce platform that allows FriendsWithYou to expand their online commerce presence. The third (and most fun) major component is the front-end markup which utilizes html 5, CSS 3 and jQuery to create a rich interactive experience without using Flash. Some of this was new territory for Quick Left and they've told us it was exciting to have a client who was as excited as they were to delve into uncharted territory.

Ingrid (@electromute) and Collin (@collinschaafsma) will be at SXSW Interactive this week. If you feel like saying hello while you're there, hit them up on Twitter.

  • Making (and Faking) an Ad Campaign

    March 11th, 2010 / Comments (2)

We found out a funny little wrinkle related to that Crank Yankers-inspired Zappos spot created by Mullen that we posted the other day. Zappos claimed the spots were based on real customer service calls to the company. Well, they were. Sort of. Mullen actually prank called Zappos' to get the perfect recordings. Here's the making of.
