Vuka Energy Via Roshambo Films
Through his company Roshambo Films, Jim Elkin has directed and produced a new spot for Vuka Energy drinks. The concept was developed by Jim, along with Alexia Bregman—a former copywriter at Thomas & Perkins (bless its soul). The entire spot was shot here in Denver with the new RED Camera in one Saturday with about 40 extras in a law office.
The elevator broke down during the shoot, but luckily the crew on-hand pulled cables and fixed it just in time to do the shot. Idolum, Denver did post production and Robot Repair did the music out of New York to complete the picture.
Interestingly, Vuka Energy is a Colorado-based company. Alexia was not only the copywriter on the piece, but started Vuka along with her husband, Darian. Vuka also just became the sponsor for the Cherry Creek Farmer’s Market, so you might see their banners flying everywhere when you pass through that area.

So the wrong kind of energy drinks make you want to go scuba diving? Or is it that the wrong kind of energy drinks leave you clumsy/discombobulated? I don’t get it. I liked the video but the message was not what I expected and I don’t think it makes much sense. I like the packaging though. And the runts.

The last time I went scuba diving, I was sure to wear a snorkel as well. You never know when you might all of the sudden lose your oxygen tank. I’m surprised the skier at the end wasn’t also carrying a snowboard.
I think it’s a great ad. Fun, lively tune – great use of background sounds – clever way to convey message of finding right energy source for certain activity.
Brit accent seems intelligent. But don’t understand spot at all. What does choosing an energy drink have to do with scuba? And do most scuba divers drink or need energy drink before a dive? It’s just not something I associate with with either. Kinda missed the mark. And a shame considering the money they prolly spent on the production. Kinda lack-luster. Props for direction and editing.
