This is kitschy, but it’s pretty cool. Especially if you’re dying for a real man’s game to get back on TV. Check out the viral campaign CU football is running. We’re betting it’s the most creative a Division-I football team will get to attract season ticket sales this year.

Thanks, CJ

Iowa State is doing the exact same thing: http://www.cyclone1nation.com/Football/

Ha! Yes, hence why it’s referencing joinyourteam.com…. still like it Egotist?

Screw that… I’m not putting my phone number into that database.

Iowa State can eat our blood-stained cleats.

This tech and application has been out for a while, in fact GU Womens bball team did it last Sept, UI did it during March Madness and the Houston Rockets did it.

But the Buffs are the first D1 team predicted to finish 4th in big 12 north to do it. Can’t wait for HALFTIME! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DuKKngq2pk

Yeah, recently saw that Boston College was doing the same thing. Was terrified to enter my phone number for fear of getting a bunch of Boston College spam. But now that it’d be Buff spam, well, that’s a different story.

A real college program doesn’t need to succumb to such tactics to sell tickets. The just proves how far CU football has fallen from the radar screen.

Buckeye Fan,

Apparently they didn’t teach you any research skills at THE Ohio State University. Or more likely, the junior college you attended.

Here’s the important excerpt from that.

“Besides BC and ASU, the campaign is being used for football, basketball or both by Georgia, Colorado, Ohio State and Iowa State.”

Why don’t you go back to Ohio so Donté Stallworth can hit you with his car.

Ever notice how insecure Buff fans are about their program and school? Buff Dude’s response is a great example. Perhaps Buckeye Fan didn’t have the “research” to back up his statement, but he had facts: CU can’t sell out Folsom Field unless they’re playing Nebraska, Texas, Oklahoma, or Colorado State.

I grew up in REAL football country: the midwest and, well, Texas (and I don’t normally like to admit I lived in Texas) but I can tell you the biggest difference between the legitimate big time programs I grew up watching and CU is the fans. Period.

The product on the field can be top caliber, though it hasn’t been in recent seasons, but their fans quite honestly aren’t very knowledgeable or loyal (hence the problem selling out Folsom), and they compound that with this ridiculous sense of entitlement.

Some critics say that CU isn’t a first rate program, they’re just in a first-rate league. I disagree, I think CU is a first-rate program, just one with third-rate fans.

Of course, part of that is a statewide problem: fairweather fans. This’ll probably rile the natives but it’s true. Stadiums sell out when the team is winning, but are mostly empty when they’re not. For reference see: CU, CSU, DU hockey (when I first moved here they were not very good and I could get a ticket on my way in to the game, now I’m on a waiting list), Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche, Colorado Rockies, et al.

Give even the Donkeys a couple of seasons where they’re out of playoff contention by week 7 and see what happens to the crowds at Invesco.

That being said I wasn’t astounded by this campaign. Good, not great. This is an ad blog, right? Sorry about the sports soapbox.

Artistic Mercenary,

Who’s the one who started lobbin’ grenades? Not me. Buckeye Fan obviously meant to inflame people with his comments. So I think your “insecure” comment was directed toward the wrong person. Everything you said to me could’ve just as easily been directed to Buckeye Fan. I was simply calling out someone who was trying to piss people off with a comment that had absolutely no backing. If you didn’t notice, at no time did I claim that CU was currently a top-tier program that was selling out every game. That wasn’t the point.

As for Buff loyalty, obviously you can tell how strong my allegiance is. But I’m just one person. Something tells me though there are a good half million people around here who would love to pummel you for your comments, if they had the opportunity.

I’m just tired of people saying one town’s fans are worse than another town’s. Every place has douchebag/fairweather fans and those who won’t admit it are just fuckin’ hypocrites.

As for fans here not being very knowledgeable, dude, now you just sound like an idiot. Aside from CU and all the other college programs here, there’s a pretty successful NFL team in town that’s been “educating” us for the past 49 years. Any other sport and you could possibly claim locals lack knowledge compared to other parts of the country/world. But not football. Just because this isn’t Texas or Florida doesn’t mean people here don’t know the sport. Don’t forget that there are plenty of CU students from TX.

Anyway Mercenary, none of this surprises me because almost everything I’ve read from you on here is completely irrational.

Buff Dude,
Nope my comment was directed at the right person. Thanks for proving my point!

Artistic Mercenary,

Well that was sure a cute response. Nice cop-out. You obviously couldn’t think of a way to defend yourself against what I said.
