The Reality Coalition: Clean Coal Air Freshener

/ Comments (7)

The Reality Coalition is a project of the Alliance for Climate Protection, Sierra Club, National Wildlife Federation, the Natural Resources Defense Council and the League of Conservation Voters. “Air Freshener,” a new spot directed by the Coen Brothers, calls out the coal industry on their claims coal is clean. Don’t know how you’re feeling about it, but we think “mock product” advertising to prove a point is fairly played. Stick with movies, fellas. Advertising Agency: Crispin Porter + Bogusky.

Reminds me of an old saying about creativity in the late 80’s. “Hey, I’ve got a great idea…let’s get [insert name of famous director here] to direct our spot.” And another kitsch, pretend product ad? I’m disappointed with both CP&B and my favorite directors.

Me Too.

Famous Directors = PR for cause. These comments and article make Denver seem hopelessly out of touch.

We know why they do it, Tim. Doesn’t mean they should or that they’ve done it well.

They should get Danny Boyle to do the next one.

Sure, the concept is over-played; but damn, it’s good to see a TV spot that speaks the truth like this one. “Call to action” groups (like ThisIsReality.org) usually have spots that are worse than this, don’t you think?

Granted, I could see the Orbitz gum girl coming in after the ‘clean coal’ product is sprayed. “Dirty mouth? Clean it up!”

come on. mock products are the new headlines.

irony and satire have been overplayed since shakespeare… maybe even beowulf.

me thinks TDE has a nice enforcement from the coal lobby.
