Helping Colorado Suck Less: The Tenfold Collective
There are a lot of lessons to be learned from The Tenfold Collective. Founded in 2006 and based in Loveland, Colorado, it’s difficult to find holes in the work they’re doing and the way in which they present their firm. (And we don’t often give those kinds of compliments.)
For starters, their creative process is likely much like your own, but the way they visualize and communicate it is simple and inviting and makes us want to be a client who could pay them handsomely for their very real expertise.
Second, every piece in their portfolio is crafted with exceptional care and the presentation of the work itself shows impressive forethought and consideration for the viewer. The photos of their pieces are consistent and offer the right amount of detail on each piece without feeling overbearing.
We also appreciate their frank, honest, friendly voice that isn’t shoving salesly language down your gullet. For instance, “The name ‘Tenfold’ comes from the idea that great design is an investment that should pay back ‘tenfold.’” Very nice and “Fortunately, there’s no high-pressure salesman in a goofy tie trying to put a pen in your hand to make you sign your life away. If our work and fresh approach pique your interest, we’d love to chat.”
You’ve sold us. Welcome to our list of Colorado Recommended Talent, right where you belong.

sooo fresh
Josh got his start several years ago at Moxie Sozo. He is extraordinarily talented, and an incredibly hard worker. I can’t speak to Tenfold as a whole, but if Josh is running it – you’re in excellent hands.
Very cool print work. I love this style. Nice work, dudes.
Don’t give these guys love. They are hacks. The Aveda identity package is a line for line rip off of Chen Designs Adamo London identity. It’s absolutely identical..even the exact die cut. There own website is a rip off from Bernstein-Rein (http://www.bernstein-rein.com). It’s gross that they have the nerve to show it off as their own work.
Here is Chen’s design:

And here’s Tenfold’s design for Aveda:

The similarities are remarkable. Is this really how you guys work? You look through old annuals, find a great design with unique dies and shapes, adapt it to your client’s colors and fonts, insert the logo in and call it done.
I can’t begin to encapsulate why this annoys me. It’s not only an ethical question of whether or not you actually thought this was a good idea. BUT the fact that you charge your client for this is appalling and embarrassing.
OK, I admit it – I’m getting all worked up over a lousy stationery package, but I think you’re doing a disservice to the rest of the community by conducting business like this. But to tell you the truth, here’s what really bugs me: To think of a couple of my buddies who got laid off months ago and who are still trying to get their foot in the door – all the while you’re biting off other designer’s work and getting recognition for it. I’m sure they appreciate your help in raising the bar in Colorado graphic design.
If I were you, I’d remove this from your book asap.
I see no similarities. No similarities at all…

Chen’s then Ten Fold’s
I’m not a graphic designer, but I am an artist and I look at other artists’ work and am inspired by it and reinterpret it for my own work. Isn’t that just part of being a good designer?? I’m sure all you graphic designers are watching all the same “big name” graphic designers and are inspired by their work and use that inspiration in your own work. It only makes sense that if everyone is drawing inspiration from the same sources that more than one person will come up with the same concept somewhere along the way. Right?
“There is nothing new under the sun” Artists have been imitating each other for centuries, let’s all lighten up a bit.
(In the interest of full disclosure, I’m married to one of the principals of Tenfold. I can also testify to their honesty and integrity. )
It was brought to our attention this week by several comments on a few industry blogs that The Tenfold Collective’s Tree of Life logo, completed by our firm last fall as part of a larger identity project, is similar to the Mayo Woodlands logo created by the design firm Wink in 2006. We have reviewed both, and while there are differences, we acknowledge there are certainly similarities and understand concerns being raised about the resemblance of the two logos. Please know that we pride ourselves not only on our creativeness and customer service, but also on our honesty and integrity; we would never purposefully duplicate or copy another organization’s work. To this end and to address any concerns, as well as out of respect to Wink, Mayo Woodlands and our client, Tenfold immediately removed this logo from our portfolio, began taking steps to redesign the Tree of Life logo at our cost as well as working with our client to begin phasing out use of the existing mark. Although Tree of Life and Mayo Woodlands focus their activities in separate industries and regions of the country, we felt this was the best course of action.
Looks like they finally fessed up to ripping off Wink…or at least acknowledged that the Tree of Life Logo looks exactly like what Wink did 3 yrs ago.

Why do clients still go to these guys? all the work they produce looks the same and 90% of it is stolen.
I agree with them ripping off other designs. They are influenced not inspired. Look at the "Four Deuces" project and www.jackdaniels.com. Any resemblance? I see it as being copied almost exactly.
