It's Official: CP+B Acquires Digital Agency texturemedia
CP+B could go anywhere in the world and connect with a top interactive agency. They chose texturemedia. Right here in Colorado. That says a shitload. Here’s the announcement straight from the horse’s mouth:
Boulder, CO, June 17, 2008 – Crispin Porter + Bogusky (CP+B) announced today that it has acquired nationally-recognized digital marketing agency texturemedia. Based in Boulder, texturemedia specializes in building brands online through the delivery of powerful interactive ideas that create measurable results through digital consulting, digital marketing, and website design and development. Over the past seven years, texturemedia has developed award-winning online solutions for a number of high-profile clients including Midas International Inc., Pentax Imaging, and Kaiser Permanente. texturemedia was recently named one of Entrepreneur Magazine’s Hot 100.
“We see the acquisition of texture as one of the most important steps we’ve taken in our digital capabilities,” said Alex Bogusky, co-chairman, CP+B. “With an existing department of 80 people and having won digital agency of the year two years in a row at Cannes, we still believe we’ve only begun to scratch the surface of what interactive work can be in the future. The folks at texturemedia share our vision to take interactive marketing to the next level and we’re all excited to get started.”
“The acquisition of texturemedia by CP+B allows us to further leverage our interactive expertise at the highest level. We are excited to join CP+B and help transform the advertising industry through the execution of truly integrated marketing with some of the top brands in the world,” Andrew B. Davison, CEO of texturemedia.
“In our world,” added Chuck Porter, CP+B’s other co-chairman, “a good cultural match is just as important as a good business match. texturemedia believes in the same things we do and together we’ll both be better.”

this will go smoothly. Im sure the culture between a smaller shop on pearl street and a huge agency in the middle of nowhere will gel without any hang ups. good luck.
RIP texture… I love you guys.
Yeah, “that says a shitload.” It says, “why buy an agency in NYC when we can buy one 2 miles away?” They didn’t choose a Boulder agency because of its capabilities. They chose a Boulder agency because they’re probably going to roll the employees over the CP+B offices by Friday. D bag.
yeah you’re probably right. Warm bobies over talent sounds like the right business decision. ;)
bobies = bodies
ahahahhahah lolz
If they had bought a national agency, everyone would be bitching about how unfair it was they didn’t look at local talent. Now they buy local talent, and everyone’s bitching because local = warm bodies within Boulder, no talent at Texture apparently, or if there is, they’re now just a bunch of sellouts to CP+B?
I love how you all just want to piss on everything, certainly helps with the coming together as a design community and sucking less.
Here’s the thing, Westfield: when an agency wants to be acquired, they’ll say anything to make it happen. Apparently, Texture told CP+B that they have good quality work, a team that would stay together after an acquisition and a unique ability to do digital. That’s all bullshit. So please don’t attack those of us who are smart enough to see the sellout for what it really is: an exit for the texture leadership that is doomed for failure. because CP+B is smart, they almost certainly structured the deal such that texture won’t make squat if half the team leaves and they can’t make good on their promises. it’s a no-lose proposition for cp+b and a death sentence for texture. bank on it. the layoffs at texture this year were a strong indication of how good of an agency texture is. that’s what happens when all of your business comes from another agency…
Just think, those texture folks will now be able to ride the CP+B prison bus to work. Sha-weet.
W. Mestfield: Who are the f’ are you? How can you sit on the sidelines and make comments about a transaction that you didn’t have a part of? This applies to a good majority of the people commenting on this blog.
Just take it easy, this is great opportunity for both parties. CP+B gains a new weapon in the interactive realm and TM gets the chance to really break out and work on bigger more exciting projects.
As working professionals in CO, we should all be happy to see a strong force getting stronger inside our square state. To me this seems like a step towards making us “suck less”.
Say hello to 60 hour work weeks and goodbye to your life as knew it at Texture. So much for moving to the mountains for quality of life…you will have no “QOL” at CP+B other than a nicely stocked pantry filled with cereal and breakfast burritos. If you put in 20 days on your snowboard last year, you will be lucky to see 2 this season…ha! Where are they going to fit these guys? CP+B’s space is more crowded than downtown Tokyo. I guess the oursource model is not working to the extent that this is best way to stop the bleeding of the agency’s loss leader. There are scores of interactive agencies across the country that are doing far superior work to Texture Media (AKQA, Domani, First Born, Blitz, RG/A, Big Spaceship, Designory, etc). This looks like a smart bail out plan by Texture’s leadership team.
Congrats! CB+P + TM Friends!
This is a great opportunity for both CB+P and TM. Regardless how negative people want to make this into.
You have some of the greatest talent working for you including my husband,Josh. So take care of him because many agencies all over the freakin’ place would love to steal him away from you! I know this for a fact.
XOXO, Tran Wills
YAY Tran! It seems like everyone who’s actually close to this deal is excited/anxious about what’s to come. This is definitely a big shit for us at TM, but we aren’t being drafted into WW3, we’re getting hired by a nationally recognized agency. We are continuing to build upon the skills we’ve acquired over the years. The TM crew are no strangers to putting our hearts into our work and it’s being recognized.
You can hate all you want, but I’m excited about this chance to get to rock on some serious shit. We’re getting a chance to play in a bigger playground with more toys and more kids.
There’s an underlying thread in a bunch of these comments I just have to grab and pull out.
All you posters saying things like “good bye to your quality of life” and counting the number of days you went riding last season have revealed what I think is one of the drivers behind the lack of great work in Colorado—way too many people are in it half heartedly. They aren’t truly geeks of the craft.
They are afraid to put in the long hours and hard work to be truly outstanding on a larger playing field. They won’t sit down and try and guide a client toward a better, more unique solution. They simply deliver just what the client wants so they can cash the check. They don’t live and breathe this stuff, instead they shut their computer off at 5 and walk out the door.
And unfortunately many of these people are touting themselves as experts, not only to unsuspecting clients, but also to budding local talent, creating a vicious cycle of mediocrity that has convinced themselves they are hot shit. 95% of them couldn’t top the worst idea that comes out of the few good shops in Colorado. Instead of learning from the moves a shop like CP&B are making, they simply try and suck us all down. Just know all you are really doing is showing your true colors.
Grats to TM and CP+B. I wish you well in your new endevours.
I know the stigmata of CP+B includes the 80+ hour work week and general employee abuse. As I have not worked there, I can certainly not say whether this is true or not. I only know the groundbreaking work for which they are known.
However, to counter Hack’s post, working 80+ hours per week does not an outstanding creative make. Good creative is not based in blocked out periods of time or sweating over a chinese food stained piece of paper at 3 in the morning. It’s a lighting bolt, a moment of zen while soaking in the shower or a brainstorm session with colleagues.
We promote a healthy work/life balance. It’s a large part of what makes a work environment a fun and inspiring place to be everyday. It shows up in the quality of our work and clients appreciate collaborating with lively and energized creatives.
Now then, it’s 4:46pm and I need to shut down my computer in 14 minutes.
i work at crispin. its fun to be there. you dont feel like you’re at work. we work hard at making ideas great. sometimes that means putting in hours others arent willing to do. we are. and we have fun doing smart, game-changing work. there are so many misconceptions about this place, its sad. people need to learn more about us.
i work at crispin too. we actually do work crazy hours there. when you decide to join camp cpb you know what you’re in for.
the upside to doing this for a while? you become really good at what you do. you learn to work from an exerienced/driven/confident/intuitive center. can you work this hard forever? probably not. but i think that’s fine.
it’s definitely not for everyone. as my friend once said, you won’t die from working too hard. you may not have a life, but you won’t die. ;)
Congrats guys! Don’t let the drama queens bring you down. It sounds like a great opportunity for both parties.
Did Crispin buy Faction Media to?
I don’t understand all the animosity.. Why would a agency like Crispin Porter purchase a company that wasn’t talented? For the furniture? The computers? Just because they are in Boulder? If theres anything I hate its a poor assertion..
CP+B bought Texture for a reason and the people at Texture will be better off for it career wise. No question.
For those that like to trash anything and everything that happens in this town, all I can say is- Don’t hate, participate. Bunch of half-baked dingleberries.
So when does the official shutdown of texture occur.
the workers at texture are in for a shock. they will be told that nothing will change for them. lie. management will be taken care of quite nicely, but the grunts will be busting their arses.
i give them about a year. sad though because they will have no other place to work now. this is what happens when a world-class agency moves into a podunk market. the locals trip over themselves kissing up. come on people, it’s boulder. a small foothills town living on a myth of lifestyle hipness. i feel bad for the kids who drank the koolaid at texture.
