Factory Design Labs redesigns

/ Comments (3)

We’re not sure when this happened, but it must have been fairly recent. Factory Design Labs has come out with a new site.

In truth, we have a bit of a love/hate thing going with Factory. They do good work, and it’s nice to see a local shop taking on big accounts and handling them well.

At the same time, clients come to Factory for one reason and one reason alone: style; and we have a hard time supporting that. There’s no question that they do gorgeous stuff, (example 1, example 2, example 3 ), but who wants to be known as an aesthetician? Where’s the concept? Where’s the beef? And it’s a bit of a double whammy when a lot of the aesthetics they’re employing were perfected years ago by folks like Mike Young and gmunk .

Anyway, props to Factory for putting out a lot of really nice looking work, but maybe they’ll read this and be motivated to start a bit of a fire under their collective asses and start gracing us with some higher level solutions. Because you know that if Factory could match their aesthetic mastery with interesting ideas and concepts, they’d be a force to be reckoned with.

The case study section of the website is excellent.

Still say Factory is one of the tastiest, most interesting shops around. A lot of your assessment could be levied at W+K too. Could your view of “concept” be mired in a bit of old thinking?

Where’s the love baby?
