More Denver Talent
We get a decent amount of work submissions to the Egotist. A lot of the work that gets sent to us is really top-notch and a lot of it, well, we think it deserves posting anyway since they took the time to send it. In the end, this is a subjective business we work in. And we’ll stand by our belief that honesty serves Denver best.
Here’s a short list of submissions we’ve recently received:
Adam Espinoza motion graphics.
Big Orange Planet web and branding studio.
Kerndt Design print and motion.

You are a tool.
Well, with such an enthusiastic and positive endorsement who wouldn’t want to send stuff into you guys!? Elitist attitudes don’t make Denver suck less.
P.S. Espinoza’s work is top-notch.
Haha, and this somehow brings the community together. Cool guys!
And I love how you edit your original post. I recall the least-suck to most-suck line the best. Classic.
Well having worked with Espinoza’s reels extensively while designing http://www.postmodernco.com, I can say he didn’t suck too much for the Denver Nuggets among many other high profile clients.
I’ll let others (and our extensive client list) be the judge of our own work.
Certainly don’t appreciate your style here- leave it off entirely if it’s that terrible.
hold the presses.. Not sure what your trying to say here lil buddy, but your obviously new to the game.
Espinoza is technically proficient and has done attractive stuff. The reason we’re not thrilled with his reel is that it’s 100% interchangeable with any other mid-level motion graphics provider out there.
As far as Big Orange Planet is concerned, the simple fact that they put audio on their sites that you can’t turn off is enough to land them on our crap list for the rest of eternity. Not that this is the only reason we're not super hot on them. Just saying.
I believe you need to have at least some sort of credible background to be making claims such as this. Espi, is very high up there in terms of style and one of the top in both experience and technicality in Denver. For people who claim to want to bring together Denver’s creative scene, you sure do a good job by starting off mocking people who are an integral part of it and have had a lot to do with the work a lot of the “Local Resources and Talent” you, yourselves promote. You need to understand that by mocking the freelancers of Denver, you are in fact mocking the companies that hire them. Why don’t you do us all a favor, identify yourselves, have some credibility and stop acting like you know everything. On another point, why don’t you stop focusing on new work that is not local. After all, helping “Denver Suck Less” includes focusing on the work Denver puts out PRIMARILY. The only thing this site stinks of is a pissed off, has-been designer with a good for nothing elitist attitude. The main problem with Denver, is it is filled with people who do nothing, and only talk. What do you do? Let’s see your work. By the way, you are no Justin Cone, for he actually admits he is a student. But then again, this comment may be just deleted. Don’t worry, I’ll write again.
Opinion noted. Thanks for the feedback.
the site is called the denver egotist. why is everyone so shocked?
as the proprietors of this site they are simply passing their judgment on the work. and how refreshing, they are not holding any punches or making any apologies. it is their opinion, period. some of the people they have not been overly thrilled about i think are quite talented and some of the people on the recommended list leave something to be desired, for me. no matter how kindly they say they do not like someone’s work it is going to put the people involved on the defensive.
i do not understand why are so many people so caught up with who’s behind the site? who cares? i feel i’m qualified to comment on anyone’s work and have a discussion about it even if they are 10 years my senior in experience. i might even learn something from an explanation of why my opinion is misguided.
if your feelings get hurt because they are not enthusiastic about your work or your friends then this site is probably not for you.
actually, scratch that. if your feelings get hurt and you can articulate a counter point without being petty, then this site is definitely for you. educate everyone on why these people are worthy to call on. take a breath and give us your opinion.
none of us would let one of our fellow designers that we work with send out a polished turd to a client with out saying, “hey, you might want to take a closer look at what it is you’re spit shining, and then go brush your teeth.” this is what the denver egotist is trying to do on a community level. it might not be completely dialed yet and i don’t think it will ever be nurturing in a kind, gentle and compassionate way. i hope it never is and that it always has an edge to it. speak up used to have these “logo smack downs” and they were pathetic because they turned into a love fest and you didn’t get any critical feedback. the instructors i respected the most in school told me how my work sucked. the best portfolio reviews i had were the ones that told me how my work fell short. that is where i learned the most. i have never learned anything from my mom telling me what a great designer i am. it’s her job and it’s a biased opinion no matter how right she is.
the denver egotist is very critical and is not as kind as your gra-mama. use it. tell everyone involved in this community why they are wrong if you disagree.
the egotist would not be detrimented if it had a little more tact. (psst that’s a hint)
postscript : what is the denver egotist doing to help denver suck less? well, they created an entire website dedicated to that subject with quite a bit of content which they update tirelessly… after one month they posted an article that asked everyone what they could do to make the site better… i thought just those two things were kind of a lot.
Cheers, Nordeck!
Big Orange Planet and Kerndt Design really do suck… and i give major props to the egotist for stepping up and saying so. the biggest problem with denver is everyone tiptoeing and giving kudos for all the half assed work floating about. and if your one of the people who honestly think that these two companies do really good work, then please keep coming back because you have some things to learn, to see, and experience. you may not even be able to call yourself a creative.
Listen. if you’re going to sit there, talk crap about other designers, that regardless of style, work their ass off to be better artists, then you better come correct and with experience to validate your opinion. If you can’t do better, the either STFU or don’t put them on the site. Simple as that. Unless you want this site to just be another nominal blog. This site seems to want to bring Denver together and wants to be more than a blog. Bringing people together does not mean adding a negative opinions to people’s names when some of the readers are friends and/or associates of those individuals. This is a very small market, watch your step. This goes especially for your idiotic comments Celest.
hey- ego folk- if you need me to point out how to turn off the audio on our sites just let me know.
The few cases where you cannot is by
specific client request.
Do your homework first please before “placing us on your crap list for eternity”.
We’re ok with you not liking our stuff, we are not ok with you printing falsehoods about it.
That puts you on our list too.
Best of luck guys.
Im still confused on why so many of you are shitting yourselves over someone (anyone) giving feedback on submitted work. The Egotist gives more than enough feedback on why they dislike some of the work they have seen. If this upsets a reader, good. You should be upset. Its a good sign you are paying attention. We all, no matter how important and credible we think we are, need to take this feedback seriously. Its no different than a client’s feedback, or even your audience’s opinion. No one that writes for this site has said that you should change your minds or change your work. Everyone demands some criticism now and again and now they have it but they don’t want to listen to it. And to “Designers,” you should pay more attention to the purpose of the blog. To show everyone work outside of big ol’ Denver is good enough for credibility. It proves to me, at least, that they know what good work is. Plus it gives us all something to compare ourselves to. An equalizer if you must, but a necessary one at that. Celeste brings up a ton of good points. They are all things we should think about and take into consideration.
Oh, and all of you complainers don’t seem to be advertising your credibility (work, websites, client list) either, so watch YOUR step…
Good perspective dude.
Nice work on your site too. Especially the poster (#2 in the portfolio).
Egotist, recommend this guy, will ya?
I am officially embarrassed to be part of this so-called “Denver Community”. What a fucking joke.
This is one of the most toxic posts I have seen on the community of design.
I am glad to have strong relationships with only those that aren’t totally lost in their own little worlds of shit-head-ed-ness.
I have found those with true innate talent are those that do not squander their time boasting while demeaning other’s work.
We’re all part of the same community.
Thank you, Denver Egotist, for forging ahead and fucking up this community.
Mad props to you.
Wow, this is quite a thread. I don’t recall submitting my stuff in the first place, knowing that my site needs work and the work itself needs to be updated. Sorry, I’ve been busy. If you think it sucks then fine, don’t post it. If you have critique then be specific.
Sheima is right, this hate game is whack. I don’t really hate anything Big Orange or Kerndt did and who’s to know when they last updated, how can anyone really judge. I do like how we posted something that provoked responses. Maybe next time, post recent entries and people can give constructive criticism based on what they show. that only brings Denver up and helps improve everyone in their skills and abilities to do well, because i definitely want to learn and improve just as much as the next.
As much as people can’t stand to hear stuff like this, its super helpful to all of us.. Its like a family argument.. We all learn.
I’m becoming more curious how everyone’s work was gathered.. Everyone I’ve talked to, said they never sent it off?? Who took it upon themselves to show? I’m not trying to start any other shit.. The Egotist site is awesome, thats why we all read it. It unfortunate that someone here made a mistake, but it was in the better interests of all of us. (I assume…)
Hmm… I hope we can do this more often in the future people, its just sad that it takes a disagreement for everyone to have such a serious conversation about design let alone anything.
