SparkFun Electronics is seeking to fill a newly created position on our Marketing Communications team. We are looking for someone who loves what they do, has a genuine interest to continually learn and has the self-motivation and discipline to do so. Your experience will help us develop this position into one that implements the SparkFun brand experience through the design & development of our website (it needs some TLC!) and other online and interactive Marketing & Branding efforts.

This new position will be responsible for producing graphic sketches and functioning mock-ups for online and interactive content based on purpose, SparkFun brand standards, and knowledge of aesthetic and interaction design principles. This position maintains and provides ongoing design & development of new features & improvements to the SparkFun front-end eCommerce website, mobile site, social media sites, and any other mobile apps or interactive experiences that are needed. Close interaction with a variety of other departments and teams is expected, including SparkFun’s IT department to understand SparkFun’s code base conventions and practices. This position reports directly to the Marketing Communications Project Manager and will work in collaboration with the eCommerce Marketing Analyst to determine performance and impact of web & interactive efforts.

**Responsibilities:**

* Design and develop compelling and innovative eCommerce websites, web applications, mobile applications, interaction design experiences and other digital design assets (ads, banners, opt-in only email newsletters, DVD menus, digital training manuals and other online and digital graphics)
* Work under the general creative guidance of the Sr. Designer and Sr. Copywriter and design to develop creative that is both functional and reflects the spirit of an agreed-upon concept and creative strategy
* Confer with Marketing Communications Project Manager and any internal clients regarding project requirements, deadlines, specifications, and revisions
* Help increase customer procurement, conversion, and other planned and measurable impact of web & interactive initiatives in collaboration with the eCommerce Marketing Analyst
* Tests alternate design options and assumptions through A/B tests, etc. in order to determine the best course of action for design innovations and new ideas for improvement
* Use the latest in web & interaction design languages, software, & tools with attention toward compliant web standards & protocols

**Required Skills:**

* Bachelor degree in Web Design, Interactive Media Design, or related field or equivalent work experience
* 3-5+ years of web & interactive design experience showing continued track record of innovation & creativity
* Knowledge of best practices in tactical operations & current trends of eCommerce website (shopping cart & checkout, order management, guided navigation, blogs & social media design, mobile design, and the like)
* Ability to work independently & on a team
* Strong interpersonal skills are needed in order to:
* Build trust, rapport, & strong working relationships with peers, teams & management, especially Marketing Communications and IT teams in order to enable improvements in SparkFun’s online & interactive brand experience
* Maintain an open dialogue with Director of Marketing Communications
* Develop thought leadership by sharing your perspective & knowledge of web & interactive design
* Highly motivated with proven ability to adapt and pick up new technology and techniques quickly
* Ability to work within tight deadlines when necessary and communicate any changes to project status accurately and often
* Excellent digital, web, & interaction design skills
* Excellent oral, written, and creative visualization skills
* Excellent working knowledge and experience in CSS3, HTML5, modern Javascript, and other standard industry languages with the ability to learn new languages as needed
* Working knowledge of PHP and AJAX
* Familiarity with modern version control systems (e.g. Git)
* Working knowledge and experience converting Photoshop & Illustrator files into working websites
* Knowledge of current web design trends, such as sliders, mobile design, innovative online typography, the use of big images & photo backgrounds, textures, good design above and below the fold, and social media sharing
* Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
* Working knowledge of gmail, google docs, google calendar
* Experience in eCommerce preferred
* Experience or interest in physical computing projects and the ability to use Arduino, Processing or related languages preferred

Online design portfolio of 3-5+ web & interactive design projects demonstrating your knowledge, capabilities, and real world experience
