Creative Crackdown, Cactus TV

By / /

The third individual submission in our new running series is up for your honest feedback. Once again, our friends from Tequila, TBWA\Chiat\Day’s in-house interactive shop, will be joining us to give their take on the work (with more heavy hitters to come from other shops around the country soon). Here’s the set-up for this new spot from Cactus.

Cactus Marketing Communications has just launched its first television spot in a new wave of off-beat commercials for the youth tobacco prevention campaign, Own Your C (Own Your Choices).

Rather than focus solely on the topic of tobacco, the innovative campaign empowers Colorado youth to make educated choices and encourages them to own the consequences of those choices, good and bad.

With the tagline, “Make your own choices,” the spot reminds the audience that if you aren’t strong and resolute, someone else may make your choices for you. The spot drives viewers to visit ownyourC.com, an evolving, interactive website that serves as a forum for teens to exercise their choices.

    Simple and funny, I think

Simple and funny, I think it’s the best of the C campaign and that’s not just because I’m a sucker for spots with subtitles.

I can’t agree more. This spot

I can’t agree more. This spot drives a dagger in the heart of all the evil in the world. The genie is obviously suppose to represent sadam husan and the oil cartel. While the basket ball kids harken back to the old give and take of chewbaca and han solo.

The goal of “genie” was not to celebrate cinematic history, the spot relied on absurd violence and sex to drive home the story. I loved that idea, it was very American.

Strahl tried to make a real film. There was no exploitation aspect – no sex, just 30 seconds worth of fun, and the most unimpressive car chase scene in the last decade. Ironically, his “good” film turns out to be so good that it’s better than the rad shoes he set out to replicate in the first place.

Cactus has made vast improvements to the single-player experience in this sequel. Viewers take on the many roles required of them as Colorado natives. A compelling story line coupled with open-ended, mission-based objectives and frenetic subtitles make the single-player mode worthwhile.

    Nicely done.

    Love the humor approach, as

Love the humor approach, as I’m tired of hearing that smoking is bad for me. I like the thought, but this particular execution is a bit light in delivering on that line. It’s not make your own suggestions, it’s make your own choices.

I saw this on the tele last

I saw this on the tele last night while watching the Family Guy, “Star Wars,” special. I thought it was great…tired of seeing people in body bags, or people with hairy backs…etc,.

This is one of those spots

This is one of those spots that causes people to talk. Talk is good. And, that last line is brilliant. Well done.
