• Old Navy Supermodelquins: Holidays in Hoodie

    / Comments (0)

After the GAP Cheer fiasco that had the American Family Association threatening holiday boycott of the GAP because of its holiday-neutral advertising, sister-company Old Navy gives the AFA nothing to complain about in this spot featuring the Supermodelquins who yell “Merry Christmas” clear as day mid-way through the spot. The work is from Crispin Porter + Bogusky, Boulder. Sound was designed and mixed at Coupe Studios, Boulder.

Here are a selection of portfolios we’ve been sent over the last six months or so from people with expertise in a number of areas.

    >> Souldesigngroup – Still a young ‘un narrowing the focus to web/graphics work. After choosing London and fashion as a path, life lead right back to Colorado and evolved into website design.

    >> Jeffrey Smith, Designer – Designer from the New York area, trying to relocate out to Colorado. Has experience in Web, Interactive and Multimedia, Art Direction, 2D and 3D animation, 3D visualization, and Print.

    >> Erin Rietz, Graphic Designer – Left the corporate rat-race in chilly Chicago to spend her formative years in a more eye-pleasing and laid back locale (ie. Boulder). Looking for full-time or freelance work.

    >>Schnitt Edit – A small, creative editing shop in Minneapolis looking to establish some working relationships outside of their market. They have a great space in Minneapolis’ Warehouse District and would love to host some new clients there. Working in Denver on a mobile rig, working remotely or any combination that makes sense for the agency is also easy to do for Schnitt.

    >> Mary Howard Design – Lives in Denver and works as a graphic designer and marketing manager. Looking for freelance work.

    >> Desmond LaVelle, Writer – Not local, but a great writer with a great book, nonetheless. Currently working at FCB in San Fran and launching a new campaign for Dockers that was written up in The NY Times.

  • Michael Bay Can Even Screw Up A Victora's Secret Ad

    / Comments (4)

In the late 80’s and early 90’s, there was an old joke about TV spots that could be heard in agencies around the world. “Hey, I’ve got a great idea for a commercial…let’s get [insert name of A-list movie director] to do it.”

Now, don’t get us wrong, there have been some great ones (Apple’s 1984 sits on the top of that pile). But this Victoria’s Secret effort from Michael Bay is not one of them. Not even close.

Yes, the man who insists on a barrage of slo-mo shots, explosions and military aircraft in every film has brought this gift to the world of lingerie. Michael Bay fans will not be disappointed. Anyone else with any common sense will have a hard time keeping a straight face for this dog. It’s hard to believe that 90 seconds filled with supermodels in lingerie could suck so much.

    Boy, does it suck.

Oh, and he even manages to ruin it for fans of Iron Man by using a piece of music from the soundtrack. Watch for yourself.

Delfino Trujillo has freelanced with various agencies in Denver doing production and retouching, including BarnhartCMI, Cultivator, The Integer Group, Sukle, Strada and Sterling Rice. He’s been in the business since ’87 when, as he says, “We all used to ride dinosaurs and write on stone tablets.” Always nice to hire someone who’s experienced.

  • Royal Canin's Drooling Dog

    / Comments (0)

Two ads act as one, facing each other on a small street. The first features a bag of delicious Royal Canin Great Dane dog food. The one across the street features a Great Dane, dripping drool (made of jam sugar that dropped from a simple installation of a canister and tube), as he stares longingly at the food. Simply brilliant work from Heye & Partner, Hamburg.

  • Tarantino Shames Himself in Japanese Commercial

    / Comments (1)

Man, this is so bad. Not so bad, it’s good. Just so bad, it’s embarrassing. From the comments on Buzzfeed, here’s an explanation as to what you’re seeing: This is an ad for a speaker that hooks into a phone. Seemingly one that’s shaped like a dog. Tarantino is playing a yakuza honcho running away some where; his wife cows him into coming home over the phone.
